So rather than 5 films, this is far tougher. What's the film that you want played at your funeral? Whether it's celebratory or a melodrama, whether funny or bitter, what will it be?

Curious to see what beyond Ikiru you choose...

Cliche, perhaps, but I'm going with Tree of Life.

Life of Brian.

Fuck mourning. I want people to laugh, not cry.

Probably something from Looney Tunes.

Mind Game - there is no greater celebration of life, art, and music, and that is how I would want people to remember me.

Since I want to leave people inspired and full of life, the only clear answer is A Goofy Movie.

Maybe Hannah and Her Sisters. Maybe The Royal Tenenbaums.

Maybe more likely God of Cookery.

God of Cookery.

The Big Lebowski: Especially considering the last act. Poor Donny. I want people at my funeral to be quoting from that movie nonstop. I don't want any crying, either. And a keg of Pale Aces Flying Ale from my favorite bar plus a buffet. You should remember the good times you had with the deceased first and mourn later.

Baraka at the funeral. Ghostbusters at the wake.

I'm not convinced anyone's actually had a good time with me, so if they come they can at least enjoy a good movie.

They play movies at funerals?

I'd have to go with Life of Brian. I mean, my name's Brian, and you can't beat the ending.

I guess I'll say Akira, if only because my friends and family will finally have to watch a movie I've wanted them to watch for years, and I won't have to hear "It's a cartoon? I don't want to watch that."

We're now about 20 posts into this thread and only one person so far has hinted at the absolutely bizarre nature of this thread's basic conceit. We're awesome.

Which popular magician would you like to perform at your funeral?

Yours was too subtle for me to classify as such. I thought it was just a joke about wanting to live to be obscenely old.

BTW, when I die, I'm leaving this forum account to my eldest child, if I have such a thing.

In case my pointing out how absurd this concept is taken as a dismissal of sneer in the direction of this thread, it wasn't intended as such. This was a fun topic.

Am I to assume dreamdead's answer is Ikiru?

It is indeed.

And yes, it is a fundamentally odd choice, but I cribbed it from avclub's songs to play at your funeral. I thought the idea could offer interest beyond the oddity of medium switching.

C'mon! Nobody chose "Better Off Dead" or "Weekend at Bernie's"?

Here's what I want to know: When you imagine this scenario, are you there? I mean, is this movie being played at your wake? And if so, are you in the coffin during the viewing or out of it?

"No, no, Billy. Let Uncle Frim's corpse have the aisle seat. You come sit next to me."

Why Ikiru? Unless you spent your final years selflessly having a playground built, you're going to come of looking like a real piece of shit in comparison. That's why I'd choose a Neil LaBute retrospective.
