I would have said "The Great Escape" times a million, but even though the studio boasted of a 4K restoration, the results are hugely unsatisfying according to www.blu-ray.com and praise is pretty much limited to "better than the DVD". It caused quite an uproar among those who waited for the movie on blu-ray. I will have to wait as well. I already bought the region 1 Matrix digibook yesterday so that's covered as well. I will get Braveheart and Shawshank somewhere down the line.

You said the wrong thing. It's one of his best works.It's a movie that I remember better than it plays because the dopey romantic subplot between Teresa Wright and the über-bland cop is so easy to forget. Notorious it ain't.

It's a movie that I remember better than it plays because the dopey romantic subplot between Teresa Wright and the über-bland cop is so easy to forget. Notorious it ain't.
I don't even remember that romance or the cop. The reason why it's a good film has more to do with Joseph Cotten's Uncle Charlie, the scenes with the nerdish neighbor who's a true crime buff and the big finale. Hitch's heart was probably more into those things than any love story.

Notorious is also one of the best but they're wildly different. No comparison.
