Basically a bunch of artists release Record Store Day exclusives, reissues, special packaging, etc. that you can't get any other time. Tons of record stores across the country participate. I've only been into it the last couple years, but at least in LA, it's huge. I'm sure it is in NY and other major cities as well.

Damn, I didn't even notice the Drive soundtrack. Sweet.

I have the cd version of that Liquid Swords set with chessboard and all. I bought it just for the instrumentals album and it was really poorly made.

Twist and Shout is (obviously) a store that supports this. I'll have to check it out. Thanks.

Honestly, it'll almost certainly be way more than I'm willing to spend, but that's definitely good to know.

The chess set is just your basic dollar store chess set with no Wu-Tang aspect to it. The instrumental album is very shoddily put together. Some songs have a random bit of a word pop in here or there like they didn't completely remove the vocal track. Also some songs have parts of hooks and some don't. It also doesn't feature the two non-RZA produced tracks on the album.

Aye, it's a big deal here. Some stores would serve free food/drinks and concerts by live bands and/or DJs all day. Certain stores would have lines around the block just to get in.

Good to know. Twist and Shout is sort of a renowned record store in Colorado. I'll go in with no idea what to expect.

uuuuuugh they had a shipment problem (http://blog.mondotees.com/2013/04/16/a-few-words-about-record-store-day-2013/) with the Drive soundtrack. I checked stores and they won't have it in. Bummer.

I live in Nashville. It's a massive deal here. . .but unless I find Sound of Silver on vinyl for cheap, I won't be participating.
