I came up with some individual poster stats based on the 2012 database thread. So I thought I'd share some lists with you all and put in this forum since some people don't venture into the database forum.

First stat:

We had 106 different posters make at least 1 vote in the 2012 database.

Hm... my stats will be off. I have been withholding a lot of ratings and votes as I am preparing a yearly list / review thread sometime later this month once I am done catching up.

Still, glad you did this. I was hoping someone would take the data and give us a rundown of different stats.

So I only saw 80 movies from 2012? Weak.

are you going to do most contrarian / sycophant?

Love these stats.

Nope. The Island President & A Liar's Autobiography: The Untrue Story of Monty Python's Graham Chapman (although I just saw Ivan Drago voted on the latter but it must have been after my last database update).

I don't expect to make that list ever. I just don't have time and money to watch mediocre films, I stick with the mainstream hits and try to hit up the top films come awards season. Mediocre films come years later while flipping through late night tv.

I rather expected I'd make a list based on the kindness of yays. I would have nayed Elles if I'd remembered to critique it after posting a while back in the GD thread about it. I'm willing to avoid most everything I think I'd nay, whether that's good of me or not (since it silences some of the more exciting discoveries).

And SP, I'll be getting to the new Ann Hui in the next month or so, so there will be three of us soon...

yeah, I'll get a couple nays, but generally if it's well received there's redeeming qualities that slide it to the yay side typically. If I see 20-30 of these a year, more than likely I'll only have 3 or 4 nays in the bunch.

I wonder what it would be like if I actually bothered to spend my time watching currently released movies and not spending endless catchup on older films or earlier 2000s movies. I'll admit that I'm less adventurous, sure, but when it comes to newer movies I don't have time or the money to go out and watch fucking Twilight or the latest Smurfs movie. I know I'm going to hate it.

I generally like movies, and I tend to have the same idea, that I'm not going to go see a movie if I know I'm going to hate it. Of my 44 movies I saw from 2012 I can honestly say looking at them all, I thought I was going to like them all before I saw them. 11 of them I did not end up liking so 75% isn't bad. I don't think most of us go into movies believing we're going to hate them.

Lately I've been trying to just see about anything, even if it may suck-last year I decided to view all of the Transfomers movies so I could bash them and I ended up only hating the second one (although none of them are good)....

Yeah, as much as I understand the limitations and pains of forcing us to be US-centric, I think the idea of the yearly forums is to add films whenever they receive some sort of US distribution, or at the least have become known and sought out by people on this forum. If you live outside the US and Canada, which probably 20-25% of the members do, it is likely to not be worth it to add any films that have only received domestic release and are never mentioned here. Create a thread in the GD or, if you must, write some thoughts in the FDT.

Dukefrukem

Not to mention it gets us USAers excited if one of the films is well received overseas.

To be fair probably wouldn't have made much difference. Your voting was 71% positive out of the around 40 movies you previously voted on which is pretty much the average at Match-Cut. So unless every movie you voted on now was a nay you wouldn't have made it on to any of the extreme lists.
