There isn't one here right? it was on the old forum?

Why is this film so unimpressive to me? Why can I not enjoy it while everyone else praises it? As beautiful as the film is, why do I hate it??

Firstly, not everyone praises it. In fact, I'm sure the majority of cinematically minded people are fairly critical of it. Secondly, was the film beautiful? What is beauty? Pretty pictures? It had ugly CG landscapes and hordes reminiscent of World of Warcraft. A noble morality? More like fascist. An intense experience? About as intense as a Navy Seals commercial.

It's okay to not like ridiculous-looking piffle.

That's a good point. I saw it in theaters and recently bought it on Blu-ray because i felt I had missed something. I need to pay more attention to the CGi but I remember it being clean with slow motion effects so you could admire it longer. I'm still trying to figure out the point of the film. Honor?

I believe I enjoyed it partly because I'm an action junkie, that I like war movies, and simply because it appealed to my that huge testerone filled macho side that I really don't have :P

Also I thought the visuals were actually pretty damn cool. Finally call me daft but how was the film facist, or anything else its been called? I still don't really remain convinced that its any of those things.

I thought it to be crap with some nifty effects.

It was pretty and pretty ballsy in its hyperreal operatic nonsense mish-mash.

I certainly see the movie as somewhat misogynistic (though even that is debatable, since Leonidas' wife is portrayed as the smartest, most logical character).

But I've never understood the accusations that the film is "fascist" or "racist". Just doesn't make sense to me at all.

But it's a very tired argument from nearly a year ago, and I don't think getting into it again will get it any farther.

As an action junkie male, I thought it was an ugly piece of shit.

It was pretty brainless, not to mention racist among other complaints.

What? I thought you enjoyed it.

I remember a specific post you once did saying that despite all your misgivings, you couldn't help enjoying it.

And yes, 300 is worse.

This movie was so ridiculous and stupid that I couldn't help being entertained by it. The whole thing looked like a commercial.

But it was a like a puerile commercial for fascist, sexist kitsch.

Definitely the worst movie I saw last year.

So ugly it nearly made my eyes bleed. I didn't stick around long enough for it to start hurting my brain.

Pshaw, you amateurs. I saw Encino Man in the theater and as much as I disliked 300, there's no way it can top a Pauly Shore/Brendan Fraser vehicle.

I can't believe anyone actually takes this film seriously; I sure as hell didn't, and I just enjoyed the ride. I guess that makes me a facist loving, sexist male misogynistic neo-con pig :P

That film is one of my guilty pleasures. Yes Pauly Shore sucks, but damnit I like Fraser as an actor. Don't judge me! Heh.

Well, I "liked" it about on the level of me liking Bloodrayne. I believe my exact words were that it was a pile of shit that made me want to kick furnitures around and rape random women. At the time, perhaps I confused that as something positive. All I know is that I enjoyed laughing at it and would not allow anyone to show it to me ever again.

I really can't recall a single positive thing about it now. The sepia sky was irritating and the action scenes... what action scenes?

Anyway, as a side note... I don't really like "couldn't help enjoying" stuff. That makes me feel like I'm being molested by someone who deliberately arranged a piece of shit to woo me. Like bows on a bear trap.

The thing that bothered me the most about the film, is how blatantly obvious it is that the "300 Spartans" are actually just 30 of the same guys from Men's Fitness magazine on a sound stage in every shot.

All I know is that if King Leonidas were to have been played by Chuck Norris instead of that Gerard Whatsisnuts Guy, the movie woulda been called 1, and there woulda been a sequel.

I will see this eventually.
