Based on the British series from the early 90s. Fincher is a producer and directed the pilot. All 13 episodes begin streaming on Netflix on February 1.

Biggest (and for me, only) draw here is Kevin Spacey. The material seems rote, like every other political movie and show over the past twenty years. But I think Spacey's smart, hardass Swimming with Sharks persona will make it watchable.

Edit: If you're interested in the original BBC "trilogy," it can be seen here:

Come on Brude, finally a television show with an amoral character at the center!

Robin Wright is a draw for me as well as Spacey, though I see no signs that she has a compelling character to play.

Anyway...it looks boring. I'll watch it.

Spacey doesn't change facial expression or tone of voice in that trailer.

Spacey, the cast, and Fincher are the only reasons I'm considering watching this. Tired premise is tired, although I'd rather see this over, say, The West Wing.

The West Wing was amazing television.

I'll check out an episode or two of this.

The British series is pretty far out there and campy. It's much more about the portrayal of a megalomaniac than it is any attempt to be a realistic commentary on politics.

The West Wing was amazing television.

I think MadMan refuses to watch it because he hates Bill Clinton or something like that. I forgot.

Netflix is going a little overboard pushing this show in their search engine. I searched "Triumph of the Will" and the second option was House of Cards. I searched "Caddyshack" and the FIRST option was House of Cards, followed by Caddyshack.

Interesting movie night you're planning.

Well, I won't watch them in that order. Duuuuh.

I tried out The West Wing, and I believe I'm not the only person on the boards who isn't a fan. Its not cynical enough for me, but I suppose the criticism of House of Cards can be that its too cynical. I imagine that D.C. politics lies somewhere in the middle.

Looks like I'll watch the pilot solely for Fincher, and that's it.

I'm only going to watch this because of the lamps in that shot, that's it.

Everything about this seems appealing except the show itself.

It was filmed partly in Baltimore. I'm going to scrutinize outdoor shots looking for my house.

I want you to tweet about every shot that's not actually in Baltimore, but passed off to be in Baltimore.

I'm fairly certain that the whole thing is Baltimore passing off to be D.C. We're cheaper to film in.

But I'm happy to comment with "I know that street. THAT ONE TOO. Not that one."

Fun fact: The Wire was actually filmed in Australia.

Funner fact: the film Australia was actually filmed in Toronto.

Continuum would be another one actually that's Vancouver as Vancouver. (And sometimes even Vancouver 2077!) Plus it's actually going to be shown in the States on Syfy early next year. Decent show.

But yeah, it's rare. If people didn't already love Scott Pilgrim in general, they'd still adore it in Toronto anyway just for staying true to the books and being so graciously set and shot at so many real places here.

This is coming out on DVD and Bluray in June. Doesn't that... defeat the point?

Not sure why it would. HBO releasing their shows on dvd/blu doesn't defeat the point. Some people don't have decent streaming options or prefer to physically own stuff.

Sales for the non-Netflix people to potentially get Netflix?

I'm very curious of these first week sales numbers.

Seems a little early but I would expect it to come to Blu-ray eventually.

...Paying $30+ to sample a $7 product?

I completely understand the urge to have the series eventually exist on something other than a theoretical Netflix cloud for all time. There's still a lot of people that don't have the capabilities for high-speed streaming on TV's, aren't savvy enough to navigate less official means of finding it online, or just generally want to have shows physically to bring wherever, especially if like here in Canada a lot of people's downloading caps are ridiculously over relegated.

I just assumed they would want to push Season 1 onto DVD and Blu-ray a little bit closer to Season 2 coming along next year.
