Glad I waited. This was easily the worst Spike Lee film I've seen. The movie starts with Flik holding an ipad out the window recording the city as they're driving through Red Hook. It ends with the same scenario but him holding a cross out instead of an ipad. That pretty much sums up this movie. Not to mention the child acting in this is awful.

I wasn't quite as down on this as you were but it's hard to consider it anything but a mess. The child actors ARE terrible, to the point that there are places you can actually hear how Spike read them their lines, because they are acting in the same register he does. Nonetheless I found something charming about them and particularly their chemistry with one another. It's overlong and meandering and preachy and weirdly Christian and not-very-good, but something about it's vibe is inviting, and it's clearly a Spike Lee joint.

Liked it a lot more than I thought I would, was genuinely shocked by the revelation in the third act - great final montage, music in general lifted some scenes and Clarke Peters did a nice job. I like Lee's messier efforts much more it seems.
