It was better than I was expecting, whatever that means.

Pretty much.

But dear lord is Connie Britton smokin'.

Going with nay as well. I like the players involved, but as is often the case with road trip movies it's meandering and not all the bits are equally good. There's just no substance to it.

Well, I really liked it.

I thought it managed to successfully operate really well in how it juggled both its relatable human drama tone with its more heightened, goofball, satirical levels when each was needed. It might help that I'm a fan of almost every actor that swung by each segment and that I didn't have the highest expectations for it going in, but once I got a sense of what it was trying to do, I thought it was the perfect sort of minimal, life-affirming dramedy to be made with this sort of personal take on the end of the world in a way that it focuses on characters attempting to make the most of their circumstances. The perfect counterpart to Melancholia!

I'm not much what I would defend beyond that, and in that way it reminded me a lot of Safety Not Guaranteed from this year in that whatever nitpicks and debatable overall stength of its individual elements, what's most important to me was how it just kinda snuck up on me and how I found myself connecting to it from a certain point all the way until the end. Which I was pleased was actually made to be the end, and that we didn't see anything largely out of character for the film in depicting the world's quick demise.
Not one of the best of the year, but definitely just the right sort of small, surprising highlight I'm glad I got around to.

Out of the bigger releases, this is BY FAR the worst movie I've seen this year.

It's the end of the world and the audience is trapped for 90 minutes with two of the most boring people on earth.

Terrible, inconsequential dialogue. Unrealistic and unbelievable scenarios. Stupid, aimless music montages that try and hit emotional notes the script isn't good enough to deliver.

Disappointing because this film could have bee quirky and funny and still managed to say something meaningful about, well, ANYTHING. But the movie isn't even interesting enough to be called vapid.

Really thought, based on the previews, that they had enough story do as to not resort to the "middle aged dork hooks up with impossible beautiful younger woman" stuff ... But nope.

Watched this today. If this is indeed the last day, then I probably should have found something better to do.
