This should be a fun (and difficult) Top 5. So many great scenes to choose from.
I need to think about this.

Sorry for the low quality and the walkie-talkies, but this is the only clip I could find that includes the shot with all five cyclists in a "V." I love that shot and the music that accompanies it.

The entire ending sequence in Close Encounters is one of my favorite anythings ever.
Also that cut from the little girl screaming before being eaten in Jurassic Park 2 CUT TO Jeff Goldblum yawning.

1. Elliot talks to Keys - E.T.
http://www.anyclip.com/movies/e-t-the-extra-terrestrial/elliot-talks-to-keys/
That was the best video I could find for the E.T. scene. I'm still amazed how in the middle of a light-hearted film, a scene like that can take place and pack an emotional punch like no other. I honestly think that this short scene sums up Spielberg, his passions, and his themes wonderfully.

I'll go with two of my fave underrated 'bergs:
1. A.I. -David is abandoned by his "mother"

2. A.I. -David meets his real father

3. Empire of the Sun -"I Can Bring Everyone Back"

4. Empire of the Sun -Jim loses his parents in the crowd.
Can't seem to find a clip of this.
Apparently I have childhood abandonment issues. : /

If we were doing the Top 5 Worst Scenes of Spielberg, you could basically pick any four randomly from 1941 and that fucking sex scene from Munich.
There is no denying the greatness of that USO dance sequence.

There is no denying the greatness of that USO dance sequence.
Yes there is. It is part and parcel of one of the most shrill, tone-deaf "comedies" I've ever been subjected to. I hated that scene and hated the movie to its very core.

This is the only scene I've ever had to close my eyes from being too scared in the theater. I ended up seeing Jurassic Park again, and I had to force myself to keep my eyes open the second time around.

This would probably be number one for me. Gives me goosebumps every time. John Williams' score, of course, makes this scene, but it's also perfectly shot. Can't wait for this to come out on Blu-ray.

Fuck I may have to replace the T-Rex scene with that. I completely forgot about it.
SPIELBERG has a way to get this kind of tension absolutely 100% correct. With the Raptor scene, the Spider scene in Minority Report, the Tentacle scene in War of the Worlds, The walk to the Cup of Christ in Last Crusade... each one is perfect.

Am I the only one who finds the kids in JP a bit annoying?Nope, but I think that was the point. Hammond is gleefully using them to show that his park will make him tons of money. Its why I don't buy the argument that the movie adaption made him look good. No it doesn't: he still comes across as a ego driven asshole who has to be told off finally by Dr. Sattler when he fails to realize that his dream was never going to work in the first place. Not to mention the other scene where he flips shit in typical "I'm a rich asshole dude" fashion. Now I'll admit that they didn't kill him off in film like they did in the book but I was never a fan of that scene. The fact that he ends up losing the company in The Lost World was enough for me, really.
PS: You know, I've never written a review for Jurassic Park. As a huge fan of the book, and a die hard fan of the movie, I probably should at some point.

1. 2000 Years Passed By - A.I. Artificial Intelligence
Because I can't find a video clip. . .it's the scene where
The advanced robots (I think? It's been years) rediscover David 2000 years after he became trapped underwater with the blue fairy. The robots wake him up and he walks up to the Blue Fairy statue, hugs it, thinking he's finally achieved his goal. . .and it shatters, leaving David almost paralyzed from shock. It's been a while since I saw it last and for good reason. I end up an emotional wreck every time I watch it, and most of it comes from this scene, the beginning of the third act.

I'm glad I'm late to this thread. I love making lists, but I am absolutely incapable of coming up with a Top 5 for Spielberg. Cannot be done. Not sure I could even do a Top 10. I'd oddly feel I was betraying some of them if I couldn't list them so I won't put myself through the personal anguish. I'm just going to mention a few more that I love to add to the many favorites of mine that you've all already mentioned.
Yeah, the map room is sheer goosebump territory, but Williams music adds so much in that scene.
Yup. John Williams does so much for Spielberg, making what could be silly scenes into emotionally moving ones.
Hook - Oh there you are Peter
RZKT60zuVkA
And didn't see this next one mentioned. It's the epitome of how Spielberg can steal any mental burden I might be carrying with a sequence so joyful and light it practically has wings.
Catch me if you can - Airport Escape Scene
O0uyIWOU024
And man I wish I could find a good clip of the bridge cutting scene in Temple of Doom. Everytime I watch that movie I rewind the scene and watch it again at least 3 or 4 times. I found a super crummy Youtube video but it's shortened and horribly out of focus. 'Twould be an insult to post it.
