View Full Version : Cutties Ballot Thread DEADLINE JUNE 4TH

Mara
05-09-2012, 12:58 AM
Ballots are not due until sometime early next month, but here is the thread where you can start your lists. Nothing will be considered final until the deadline, so feel free to toss around thoughts and lobby and edit and re-edit.

As before, you do not need to vote in every category, and you do not have to have seen every show to vote.

Please only vote in a category if you have three nominees, and limit yourselves to five maximum. Please read the notes below the list! I'm separating the notes so you can copy and paste the categories.

NOTES

*"Guest star" is someone who is in 1-3 episodes.

*We have decided that the "Best Episode" can be any episode that aired from June 1, 2011 to May 31, 2012, even if that season itself is not eligible. This is to honor episodes that otherwise would be ignored. So, for example, "Baelor" from last season's Game of Thrones or "A Good Man Goes to War" from last season's Doctor Who. Feel free to raise flags on episodes you don't think people should overlook.

*Please, so important: when putting an episode on your ballot, put it like this:

Show, "Episode Title"

You'd be amazed how much trouble that would save. Also, please don't abbreviate show titles (GOT, DttBiA23, etc.) because it causes problems with my spreadsheet.

*For best episode categories only, you can have up to ten nominees.

*For "Cancelled Too Soon" only you can have a minimum of one nominee, and up to five.

And, for convenience, here is a list of eligible seasons and shows:

also, after doing that i'm thinking the suggestion of expanding the episode categories to 10 nominees could be helpful, i'd love to give sherlock some props. depending on the consensus we could even do 10 on the ballots and then have 5 nominees?

Absolutely. Everyone you nominated is great, and my own choices of Steve Little, Nick Offerman, Adam Pally, Jim Rash and J.B. Smoove may differ by the time of the deadline, but all of those still leave out:

Done. I completely thought that Torchwood was part of last year. Although I don't know if I'm going to nominate it for anything.

Unless there's a real consensus otherwise, I'd like to keep the maximum nominations at five. Tallying votes gets unwieldy quickly, and bumping it over five usually just throws a bone out to shows that aren't actually going to win. However, if you want to have unofficial didn't-make-the-cut options on your ballot, that's fine. I just would rather not tally them. That's my two cents, anyway.

I'm going to work on my ballot today, hopefully.

I was thinking about it and I think Tosh.0 and The Soup should be in Late Night/Variety show. What do you guys think? Where should clip shows be?

Yup, I agree. That's kind of why I put The Soup on my ballot for the time being, since even if I think things like Daily Show, Ferguson and Fallon might be better, I just wanted to show my support for it and point everyone towards doing the same in that specific category if they want.

And just to clarify, the 10 nominees thing was just a suggestion for the Best Episode categories, since everybody has their own favourites and it might be harder to get a short consensus with those.

I thought I was alone in my appreciation of Joanne Froggatt. I'm pretty sure I nominated her last year, but I figured Maggie Smith would be the go-to choice. I may end up changing my vote. She's great, she's the small heart of the show.

Oh, after people have chimed in I'm going to change this to 10 nominees, for best episode only, and make the minimum for "Cancelled Too Soon" one show instead of three, because it's not a deep pool. Editing now.

And Paul Rudd can not be nominated since you said 1-3 eps for a guest star and he was in 4.

Same with John Goodman on Community.

Oh, lame. Editing.

Seems a bit hair-splitty. If Rudd was only in four episodes out of twenty-two, then it's not like he should be considered Supporting. If they're not a regular and are in less than 50% of the season, then I considered them a Guest Star.

Someone like Neal McDonough is technically credited as a Special Guest Star on Justified, but he's in it enough that I think he's Supporting.

Doesn't bother me one way or the other but according to the rules they are not allowed. So we might need to change the rule to something less strict.

What do you guys think? To me, half the episodes of a season is bigger than a guest star, but we could maybe bump it up to five. Whatever you guys think is fair is cool by me.

I'm doing the spreadsheet now and want to note: although individual episodes of Doctor Who are eligible, the whole season isn't, so I don't think Karen Gillam is eligible as a best actress nominee. Unfortunately. So she's not making the ballot, although she had a few votes.
