"I can't uncross my legs right now."

Second episode was much funnier than the first. They have assembled a fantastic ensemble here.

I'm curious to see if they can keep up the pace. The premise seems reaaaaaally narrow.

Yeah, The Thick of It has both a broader scope and has had all of 14 half-hour episodes over the span of four years and is just now working on the fourth series.

That said, the first two episodes have been stellar. The re-emergence of Anna Chlumsky is rather fascinating to me. Or, to be baser, as a Facebook friend of mine said, "Damn, My Girl got hot."

I read that BBC America have been airing The Thick of It with bleeped swearing. How does that make any sense?

I thought the pilot was OK, but after the second episode, I already feel like I'm sucked in. Just love the cast dynamic. If this and "Girls" maintain their current level of quality, HBO has hit an absolute home run with its Sunday comedy block.

It's sort of an awesome time for TV right now.

yeah, the second episode was a huge improvement. loved buster diving in to block the sneeze. that was set up wonderfully with the talk of the bug going around and taking a bullet for selina. when he was describing it to people back at the office i lost it.

and yeah, both these shows have the potential to join louie in the best comedy on tv category. which is pretty damn impressive.

Man, is Julia Louis-Dreyfus great or what? Nothing against her previous sitcoms, but this is the kind of show she deserves.

Man what a great cast.

I thought this episode stumbled a bit. There was some weird production stuff early on -- several noticeable long shots with obviously looped dialogue; it looked like they were trying to cover some kind of shortfall.

Several really funny moments, but then other times I thought the writers were coasting on the shock value of portraying people in power swearing like angsty teenagers.

The bit with the receiving line as the credits rolled was gold. I would have watched that for an entire episode, I'm pretty sure I laughed at every one.

"Ah, Christ has risen!"

"His brother is in Rage Against the Machine."

Yesterday I finally started watching the third season of The Thick of It and thought the first two episodes of Veep felt kinda anemic in comparison.

But this third episode was great.

Anyone else find the opening and closing music/graphics really out of tone with the show? It's something I picked up on in the first episode, and I thought maybe my initial resistance was just because it sent a signal I thought The Thick of It never would. But as three weeks have gone on, it still feels out of pace with everything else and a really awkward fit.

Maybe it's supposed to be contrastive? It doesn't feel like it lends the show much if it is (as opposed to, say, the use of Larry Sanders's theme music, particularly over its end credits).

yeah, i think it would be better served with just the show's title in white on black like in the thick of it.

It reminds me of the West Wing intro, which is why I think it's intentional. Especially given Jonah's constant "I work in the West Wing" brags.

It is intended to feel like one of those cheesy CNN-esque political intro graphics. They are fairly common in political coverages (especially around election time). I recognized it immediately.

New episode was great, maybe my favourite so far. Liking how the consequences are actually starting to spill over into other episodes now, along with the characters delving into more morally question hijinks and things that aren't just circumstantially wrong (instead of just having to clarify various misunderstandings or experiencing amusing sicknesses, which they still made really good episodes out of).

Also, since I think it's a plot point that was made to be online only, here's Selina's apology for the incident:

Is the whole Washington-aides-hang-out-at-metal-shows thing a real thing? It was in this episode, and it was in In The Loop, and I seem to remember a scene like it in The West Wing, too.

Agreeing with everyone else here. Great episode. You naturally think she's going to have a false alarm and then... A fantastic final shot: demented in its spoofing of Bush's learning about 9/11 and heartbreaking in how she tries to keep it in and we watch the facade crack.

Watched the first two episodes of this last night. JLD trying to contain her glee when notified that the President was experiencing chest pains and she needed to be escorted to The White House immediately was the highlight thus far. It's been a solid start, less laughs than I thought there would be, but most certainly something I want to continue watching.

I think it has gotten linearly better every episode. This last one was not the most raucous but just felt so damn amazingly precise in its construction and payoff.
