I've seen it. I'd like one I haven't seen before.
And yes, a good one preferably. Well, good is relative here. If you like it, then it's worth recommending. I realize romcoms come in greater degree of guilty pleasure. I don't need Shakespeare. I just want to be entertained.

"New York tourist Tony Curtis falls asleep on a Southern California beach on his first night in the West and wakes up to The New Phantasmagoria--catamarans, surfers (including a dog), bodybuilders, acrobats, motorcycle chicken races, a nut fishing in the shallows . . . and Sharon Tate as a skydiver named Malibu who gives Curtis the rapture of artificial respiration when he is conked on the head by a flying surfboard. This is the '60s American Dream: youth and beauty and money and sex in Southern California. Go west, all men."
Damn. Sounds involved.

Haha. Way back when they first became popular, the very first DvD I ever bought was Clueless. I am an absolute sucker for the "Emma" storyline.
It's a great movie. Of course, I never told anyone anything about this.

Those two movies are like the pinnacle of cinematic craft compared to the vapid, moronic, totally idiotic Love Actually. But, you know, whatever floats your boat. If you liked that, you'll love The Holiday. Go nuts.

I'd say its basically any comedy centred around the courtship and pairing (or reuniting) of a central couple. Which is why I recommended About a Boy only with "kind of", because while it does pair Hugh Grant and Rachel Weisz, she doesn't enter until halfway through, and the movie is mainly about him and the kid. But still, it's pretty much the perfect mainstream comedy, so on the list it goes.

Ooooh, trans accidentally reminded me of one of the best. Cukor's Holiday.
Also, most anything by Lubitsch particularly Trouble in Paradise, Design for Living and The Shop Around the Corner.
Mitchell Leisen's Midnight is also great...co-written by Billy Wilder.
For Sturges, I'd add The Palm Beach Story, which I like more than The Lady Eve.
I Was a Male War Bride is underrated as far as Hawks' comedies go.

I get the feeling you have a penchant for female-directed period things, like Armstrong's great Little Woman, and possibly Coppola's Marie Antoinette??
The opening credits are particularly neat, as are the fourth wall-breaking flourishes.

So I saw Hanna and of course I loved it (you seem to know my taste rather well). I'm already a big Joe Wright fan so that much was stacked in its favor going in, but this film was very different from his other films and I really liked that. He proves to be an audacious stylist in a way that his Hollywood success might not've really anticipated. I really appreciated its eclectic, off-kilter energy, bringing to mind a kind of Assayas-esque aesthetic vibe (I'm thinking along the lines of Boarding Gate and Demonlover here). Wright retains his knack for beautiful pictorial compositions though, particularly in the first act (giving rise to a rather clinical approach to the action sequences throughout). I also really liked the fairy tale allusions here, and the film's coming-of-age engagement with that literature.
Thanks for the rec Trip.
