not sure what's even on the docket, but I think there's a Batman film that will be worth catching. Isn't there another Narnia movie in production? I think Harry Potter 6 is out next year too. I'll say those.

I Come With The Rain (Tran Anh Hung)
Mei Lanfang (Chen Kaige)

I really should start paying attention to what will be coming out a few months in advance, but since I don't tend to watch too many movies in theaters I find it hard to get pumped for something that I might not see until 2009. I'm only now paying attention to what's coming out as Oscar-bait this year.

same here... aside from the occasional outing, mostly for blockbusters, I don't watch much at all until it's been on DVD for a while, or more likely, being shown on a free preview weekend of Random Film Channels.

Is Spielberg's Lincoln actually set to come out next year? Wild.

Okay, some of these are 2007 films I really want to see in 2008.
Crows Zero (Miike)
Sukiyaki Western Django (Miike)
Be Kind Rewind (Gondry)
A Hope (Chow)
Mad Detective (To)
Sparrow (To, if it finishes)
L'illusioniste (Chomet)
Tokyo Sonata (Kurosawa)
Now Showing (Pang)
The Visitor (McCarthy)
WALL*E (Stanton)

And isn't Miyazaki's Ponyo on the Cliff coming out next year? Might we see Anderson's The Fantastic Mr. Fox, finally?

Do you know anything about the Chow film? This is the first I've heard of it, but I'll definitely keep it on my radar.

The Chow film... no one really knows exactly what it's about. Here's (http://twitchfilm.net/site/view/more-stills-from-stephen-chows-yangtze-river-7-aka-a-hope/) some stills. Apparently, there's poverty, a young boy, aliens, alien technology, an alien teacher, or something like that. Trying to get accurate news from sites trying to round up the stuff that appears in Chinese gossip rags can be a chore.

Pretty much just The Dark Knight and Iron Man.

That's about all I know of that's coming out next year, anyways.

I'd like to say WALL*E, but I found the mini teaser pretty bland and unimpressive...mot to mention the fact that it showed next to nothing. I'll wait until more stuff comes out before I decide whether or not it looks to be on level with Ratatouille, or closer to Cars.

I don't think anyone could nail the character of Ignatius. I mean... Will Ferrel was in the running for a while.

It seems like the kind of adaptation that could easily go for broad comedy.

I used to think the same thing, now...I'm just afraid I'll wake up someday and read Ron Howard's name attached to it. It would be waaay too easy to screw it up and I'm content to just reread it periodically. Still, if it were done right, and that's a might big if, it'd be sensational.

KF, from what I've read so far of "A Confederacy of Dunces" - which I am loving, by the way - I think it would actually work best as an animated film. probably even in the style of its cover art...

The characters are justso outlandish and cartoonish, I can't really imagine any actors playing the parts.

I say get some good voice actors and animate it.

I'm against an animated version of A Confederancy of Dunces, just because its characters so outlandish and yet so real! Let's not try to hide their persona by coming up with an animated version, so it'll be easier to swallow for mainstream audiences.

That wasn't the reason for my idea at all.

While reading it I really thought he felt more like a cartoon character than a real person.

Just found out Claire Denis has a film in post-production with Isabelle Huppert (finally!) listed on the IMDb as a 2008 release... I'm anticipating that.

Other than that, I'll see anything by Van Sant, Fincher, Gondry, the Coens', DGG (Snow Angels... though The Pineapple Express could be fun). Still not excited for My Blueberry Nights despite Wong being one of my faves.

Achilles and the Tortoise (Takeshi Kitano)

My anticipation for the award season has been pretty sapped this year now that they've taken away Star Trek and Harry Potter.

I guess the films I'm most looking forward to now are:

1. Curious Case of Benjamin Button: Really more for Fincher than for the story.

2. Quantum of Solace: A direct continuation of the previous film's story is fascinating and a franchise first, but Marc Forster gives me serious pause.

3. The Changeling: The idea of it being this epic involving L.A. in the 20's sounds interesting. That J. Freakin' Michael Straczynski (creator of Babylon 5) actually wrote it and is getting raves makes me anticipate it all the more.

4. Burn After Reading: Glad to be getting more Coen Bros. so soon after their big rebound. Looks more in the vein of The Big Lebowski and Raising Arizona than their recent comedies.

5. The Road: I haven't read the book, but I am becoming more curious about McCarthy and I'm a fan of Mortensen, so I'm looking forward to this one, but would like to see a trailer soon.
