I... would totally watch your movie thus far. Winslet is a strange case of the actress who I think would benefit from a Coen Brothers film, if only to clean the air of respectability that has polluted her recent choices...

Eh? Not sure what an "air of respectability" really means, but though Mildred Pierce won a lot of awards, that doesn't stop it from being a fierce role in which she was awesome. I don't think Contagion is really the kind of stuffy film I imagine you are referring to, and Carnage, though very flawed and not as funny or biting as it thinks, has Winslet as one half of the main bright spot, her and Waltz's couple (and their reactions to most of the evening) are by far the highlights.

I actually think she had a brilliant year.

True, I suppose that I'm still holding The Reader and the Weinstein campaigning against her. I haven't seen any of Winslet's roles this past year.

Owen Wilson. As screenwriter I believe for his Wes Anderson film.Yep, that is correct. I really wish that Wilson would work with Anderson again-he was a collaborator with him on some of Anderson's best movies.

Also great picture choice, Ezee. Wilson was great in Midnight In Paris. I forgive him for Marmaduke-from my understanding he made it to help with his image problem after the reported suicide attempt. He responded by staring in a great Woody Allen movie, though.

You're thinking on a whole different level.

Well, when there are 15 participants, and 14 of them have already picked directors, I could waste a draft position and pick a director whom I know no one else is going to pick until the last round, or I can pick more valuable people for my movie first. Makes sense does it not?

Yes I am using a little bit of Fantasy Football in my decisions here but hey, that’s half the fun.

You can make your first three picks Wats. And I think it'd be fine for you to make your fourth pick at the end of the round.

How should we handle late joiners/early deserters then? Just curious what you all have in mind. Surely, Boner would have drafted differently then Watashi, but that person was always there.

Just asking for ideas for the next game.

TGM
03-03-2012, 12:48 AM
The only thing I can think is that maybe if a new person joins the game late, they don't get to make their catch-up picks until the end of the round, to give everyone else a chance to draft taking the newcomer into account (since, as was the case, at least one person would've drafted differently).

Skitch

Or if the objector could name their intended target in pm to the commish, and they would be off limits to the late-to-the-party member, but said target would be fair game for regular drafters. Or maybe that's too complicated and I should shut up.

What about putting them at the end of the current round in play with their first pick plus up to half of total rounds, then into the vacant spot the following round with their pick +1. Each round they'd do their pick +1 until caught up.
Example join in round 4: pick last in round 4 with 1st pick and 2nd pick (1/2 of the 4). Then in round 5 pick in the open spot with 2 picks (up to 4 choices now) round six they'd pick 2 again and be caught up.

Also, am I past my pick time? looks like 11am MST on 3/3, which is tomorrow, but i think that's supposed to be 3/2 which would have been today. I'll keep waiting for D_Davis, but don't want to be picked over by Ivan Drago for waiting if today is the day.

Actually, I can't remember if we've already said anything about this, but could we pick up someone who works in another field of film industry. I'm in my doubt mood.

Since I've arbitrarily tried to keep from grabbing anyone who has already done extensive work with anyone else (e.g. Emmanuel Lubezki and Malick) I've selected, I think I'm good. I'd only be worried about Boner M grabbing my cinematographer, and since he's not in this...

I only had one actor snapped up being I could get them, and that person was someone who would have reshaped my film had they been available, so I'm actually happy about them being snatched up, since my original design has otherwise unfolded smoothly.

I see how you're getting here, since the Wachowskis are into psychosexual subcultures, and their films express that interest.

However, I have never gotten that same sense from Brad Bird scripts. I'd be seriously interested in seeing that development, since I'd like to see more "sexual deviance" in cinema, but your first pick just throws off that template for me.

I thought of a cool rule we could enact for the next draft.

You can't draft anyone who has been selected in the draft preceding it. It opens the door for more creativity instead of selecting someone you may not have thought of, but only remembered after someone else drafted. It also simulates that person still be used for that particular project over a given peroid of time, and assuming they cannot work on two projects at once. So selecting the same people in back to back drafts is forbidden, but in the 3rd draft it opens the door to the first people selected.

Thoughts?

I've been putting off cinematographer, because I really don't know who to pick. I don't pay too much attention to them, I guess.I just went with the cinematographer that Wes Anderson typically uses. Since most directors work with just one particular guy when it comes to photography, the most easiest way to go about it is to draft the guy they work with. In fantasy football the equivalent would be drafting a QB, and then drafting the WR he throws to on a regular basis.

Thank you, Wats. I really didn't want to take Lubezki, but I was starting to believe everyone else wanted me to take him.

Interesting choice Spinal. I've always had a nagging thought in the back of my head that in the right hands, Asia could have real potential.

What films of hers have you seen? Because she's already given some pretty stellar performances in The Last Mistress, Boarding Gate and The Heart is Deceitful Above All Things.

I thought about her too.
I liked her very much in Tony Gatlif's Transylvania.

Oooh, love the Barry Adamson pick.
Yes!Thx! I hesitated at first, but I think he would be a good composer (especially for a kind of jazzy/groovy/cool music). I like very much Jazz Devil, The Man with the Golden Arm, The Vibes Ain't Nothin' But the Vibes and so on.... And he was the composer of some various films (including Lost Highway).

For music, the soundtrack will feature music by Ryan Adams.

If this isn't in the rules, my backup is Jon Brion.

At the end of the draft? Are we going to have a FA drop/pick up?

I might take advantage of this as well.

So what do we do after the next round?

If we're composing a synopsis for the purpose of 'competing' with other films, can we have a word limit? Just to give us a sense of what we should be shooting for. Also, how long will we have to put our movies together?

I just have a brief synopsis of my what my movie is about. And even then that will probably go through several edits. I'm not sure who else I would cast really in this Wes Anderson film, although I have some ideas. Really though I'm just all about filling the regular spots, and worrying about the rest later. Which is how fantasy drafts always turn out. By the 12th round you draft someone because hey you either like them, or maybe they fill some need but you end up cutting them later. Which makes me wonder: can we drop some of our draft choices and pick up others? Then it would be like real fantasy football :pritch:

Does everyone have to come up with a title for their fantasy film? I sure hope so. 'Cause that's 50% of my grading criteria right there.

Anjelica Huston
