Killed in a road accident on the set of his new film. Heavy. :sad:So sad. He was 76, but I was really hoping he would finish his trilogy.

While I've only seen two of his films, both were phenomenal. RIP

One of the best directors to ever live. First Ruiz, now Angelopoulos within a 6 month period. Ugh. This completely ruined my day.

He was an interesting director. You can spot a Angelopoulos film within five minutes of watching one. His style has always remained constant for better or worse. By that, I mean sometimes the subject matter jived with his style, while other times his films get bogged down. An amazing director of the long take, and I'm not sure there are many filmmakers out there who could have made Greece look so unappealing. A shame he was never appreciated in his own country, more so in that he was by far the best filmmaker Greece ever produced.

Come on, even single shots can give him away.
I mean, who?

Not one (http://www.sensesofcinema.com/2004/feature-articles/angelopoulos_balkan_epic/) but two (http://www.sensesofcinema.com/2000/9/angelopoulos-2/) essays on Angelopoulos at Senses of Cinema, as well as Aquarello's "Great Directors" profile (http://www.sensesofcinema.com/2003/great-directors/angelopoulos/). Plus, my own blog post (lesamantsreguliers.wordpress. com/2011/06/14/sink-or-swim-cinema-the-traveling-players/) on The Traveling Players.

I'm surprised I haven't seen anything by him. From what I've read, he sounds like my kind of filmmaker.

Here's an obit (http://www.nytimes.com/2012/01/26/movies/theo-angelopoulos-greek-film-director-dies-at-76.html?src=me&ref=movies) in The New York Times, which does a pretty good job of describing his style, though it neglects to mention any of the films he made prior to Landscape in the Mist.
