Am I allowed to nay a movie I haven't seen?

The most interesting thing about this is that it lends itself to trivia: When was the last time Dolly Parton got major billing in a mainstream American movie?

I don't understand while when they were CGIing them for the poster they couldn't put them over their name. I mean you have the names directly under each person and I realize some people get first billing but then just move the CGI cutout to the other side!

I had to sit through the trailer for this twice in the last month. It made my soul die.

I think we should only start a thread for a movie if
(a) it doesn't exist yet
and
(b) you've already seen it

I disagree. There are a lot of people who aren't going to want to make threads and just want to click there yay or nay. Plus we'll end up with people not following the suggested format (like the thread you created).

I think with these things, the graphic designers in charge of the poster are usually not privy to the contractual billing order, so they designed it without that info.

I saw Dolly Parton on Daily Show promoting this movie and she said the screenwriter is Jewish but he really did a good job capturing the inspirational power of Jesus and depicting the small town Georgia church choir culture. I thought that was humorous.

I saw this, too, and chuckled at it, once I calmed down for the fact that DOLLY PARTON IS ON THE DAILY SHOW OMG YES.
Let's just say that I may be the only person on these forums that sees this film.

But I don't see the point of having a bunch of threads lying there that don't have votes because no-one has seen them. I mean, we have an upcoming film discussion forum for pre-release chat.

I agree with trans. We don't need to create a thread for EVERY single film that gets released. I mean, is anyone is even going to see Contraband?

I'll also agree with trans here (for once). By November there is going to be a shit-ton of movies here to mull through.

I just want to make clear, I have no problem with this film getting a thread in this forum if someone had actually seen it and voted on it (and my post was definitely not targeted at EyesWideOpen). But it is a waste of space to have a whole bunch of threads with no votes.

Solution: you have to have seen the movie already to create a thread in this subforum.

Sounds good. But that doesn't mean the first person to see it HAS to make a thread. The first person to see it who is motivated enough can do it.

I just wanted to add that I find it humorous that this thread has more than twice the posts of any other thread in the forum :D

I disagree that this thread will end up having no votes. I mean 9 of you fuckers saw Cowboys vs Aliens. Pretty much every major new release got at least one vote in the 2011 thread.

Maybe, I'm just saying hold off on the threads until there are actual votes to be cast.

Todd Graff directed this? Shit, I might have to see this now. Bandslam is one of the better movies nobody gives a shit about.

Totally agree about Bandslam. I watched it a few weeks ago with my son. That was a pleasant surprise.

And like I said at the beginning most people here aren't going to want to create a thread. They'll just go "there's no thread for it then forget it I don't want to go through the hassle of making a poll and adding a poster". How are we supposed to know about the consensus on Joyful Noise if that happens?!!

This board is primarily a young, male audience.
So the obvious difference here is: that one had the promise of cowboys punching aliens, and starred James Bond and Indiana Jones.
Somehow I don't imagine Dolly Parton and Queen Latifah belting out show tunes is going to have the same draw.

The only reason you care is because they're for movies you don't care about.

I think the problem is that someone cared about Contraband and actually saw it. That shit needs to be addressed.

It starred Mark Wahlberg and Kate Beckinsale.
(And it actually wasn't half bad, either.)

I thought the whole point of this sub-forum was to have a thread for every film released in 2012. What difference does it make if it's started now or after someone has seen the film?

Because what is the point of a consensus thread for a film that no-one has seen? Like this one, for example. It clutters the board and is a complete waste of time.
I mean, the point is to be able to use these threads for recommendations and to give you an idea about what MC thinks of the film. "Oh, I wonder what people thought of Joyful Noise" *click* "Oh, it appears no-one has actually seen it. Awesome."

How is it a waste of time? Who is wasting time? You? No one is making you spend time on this.

One could argue that a complete lack of response illustrates the site's tastes just as much as a film that got 50 votes.

So then we should just forget about an Upcoming Film Forum.

All films are upcoming until someone actually sees them.
EDIT: Anyway, I've made my position clear. Not much else to add.
