So far, I have only seen the first one.Anderson has grown from being kinda-sorta underrated back in those days to being kinda-sorta overrated now, at least within certain trendy circles.

I haven't seen the latest Resident Evil, but I rather miss the more hopped up cheesiness of the early entries, as opposed to now where Anderson shoots half of his damn movies in sterile slow-motion. Apocalypse (the 2nd entry, and not directed by Anderson) is probably the worst in the series, but if you're in the right mindset, it may very well also be the most fun.

PWSA gives me more pleasure than basically any other filmmaker right now.More power to you. Afterlife has its moments, but strikes me as largely disposable after the opening setpiece in Japan. Kim Coates always makes for a fun sleazeball though, I'll give it that. Personally, I'd take Mortal Kombat, Event Horizon, or even his first Resident Evil almost any day.

That's my final list, which has basically been unchanged for the last half year or so. I've probably only seen ~15-20 movies since the summer, mostly new releases. I've been so busy with work and stuff my viewing habits dropped to almost nothing. And I can honestly say I miss the fuck out of movies. So much awesome stuff happening in Toronto and I've missed pretty much all of it. Hope to get my viewing habits back up again in 2013.

It's true, though. I actually hate Rear Window and Psycho and the like. (Well, hate is too strong in this case, but I don't like them.) I prefer my Hitchcock with a lighter touch.

Not entirely what I mean. Scenes like Grace Kelly breaking into the apartment make me sick to my stomach. This is one of those opinions I usually keep to myself, but I think Hitchcock is really bad at suspense. Or at least I don't like his brand of suspense. I find him crass and heavy handed. Also clumsy. The climax of Psycho is laughably bad for example.

Rear Window isn't as bad, though I do hate the aforementioned scene. But the worst so far that I've seen is Sabotage. That's the one Hitchcock movie I do literally hate, thoroughly. Fuck that senseless piece of garbage.

Waaaaaaaiiit.... you're Ed Howard? I've been reading this blog for a long time. Your piece on Bonjour tristesse (one of my favorite films as well) is, though short, one of my favorite blog posts on a film. Said many of the things I thought when re-watching it a couple years back.

Thanks so much! I adore Bonjour tristesse, I'm always so happy to hear of anyone else who appreciates it as much as I do - it seems to be one that you either really feel or really don't, with very little middle ground. Definitely Preminger's best, though.
