If we were to do the 5-10 thing, we'd have to compile the BP votes the same way: ranking our nominees, applying the 5% rule, etc.
It's doable, but I doubt anyone actually wants to do that shit.

The Kid with a Bike
AriettyI believe these are officially being considered as 2012 US theatrical releases, and will thus be eligible for next year's awards. You could include them here as well if you desire, but you might feel weird voting for them two years in a row.

Yeeaaah... As someone who's never liked anything she's written before, I was as taken aback and confused by what I was writing as you. I guess Melancholia's strengths are more in its thematic broad strokes, often sold more by its visual beauty and performances more than its structure and dialogue for me. Lars' is the better film overall, but I appreciated Cody's work enough to give it the edge, ultimately giving more variety to my votes.

Weekend (Haigh, 2011) ***½
I didn't like it as much as you, but glad to see it get a little love here. I'll try to squeeze in a nomination or two since it's sat really well with me since I've seen it.

It'll be on my shortlist for a few, as well. I don't know why I possessed the delusion that it was well-loved around here; I figured it would be. Is it just underseen? Netflix Watch Instant, people!

Add to Adapted Screenplay (had zero noms):

Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy

I'm not sure I can really find anything else worth nominating...I'm not a fan of most of the films people are nominating in this category.
edit: The Skin I Live In is worth mentioning.

Seems it got a DVD/VOD release a few weeks ago.

I don't believe it ever had an official one, but since it was released all over the world last year, has played at a bunch of festivals, even within my shitty city (probably on account of it being Gallo's hometown), and it was just released on DVD in the US, I'm considering it an '11 release since that's when I saw it. *shrug*

Good to know. I might add it to a category or two.

So where are we going to stand on for Pitt and Chastain for Tree of Life?
I would think both are supporting. The main kid is clearly the lead.

Essential Killing had a commercial release last year in Canada, so I had just assumed that meant the same for the US. Not usual for that to happen.
So where are we going to stand on for Pitt and Chastain for Tree of Life?
I would think both are supporting. The main kid is clearly the lead.
I nominated both for supporting.
On that note, I also nominated Leila Hatami for supporting without even thinking twice, though I now see people nominating her for lead. Should I change my ballot? Or does that not matter (I think in previous years we said the votes get added and they're put in which ever category they had the most votes in)?

I finished my ballot for everything I feel comfortable with. Many of my nominations are idiosyncratic, but honest.

I didn't bother voting for The Artist, since I imagine it will be on many ballots anyways. If it isn't, oh well. That's the only other major film I have watched in the past month or so, anyways.
