Oscar Thoughts:
1) Stop bitching about under deserving best picture winners. Chicago won in 2002. Dances With Wolves beat out Goodfellas in 1990. Deal with it.
2) I really don't have a problem with weak performances winning the acting categories. What I don't like is token nominations. When was the last time Morgan Freeman and Meryl Streep was truly worthy of being nominated? Give someone else a chance, man.
3) Just because your favorite director doesn't win Best Director, doesn't mean you should bitch about it. Guess what folks: Orson Welles, Alfred Hitchcock, Sergio Leone, and Stanley Kubrick all didn't win Best Director. Neither has Wes Anderson, QT, David Fincher, etc.... I rest my case.
4) Technical wins=meh. Yes they are important to a movie's success, but I'm in favor of not showing them during the telecast. If you want an even more shorter, compact show then drop boring categories. No one cares who won Best Animated Short Film.
5) Supporting Actor/Actress is underrated. Best Actor/Best Actress is overrated. Only in terms of rewarding more interesting performances. These days, it seems that a deserving actor/actress is more likely to win Supporting. Why, I really donno. Maybe the Academy is afraid to nominate more risky leading performances. I'm not really sure.

Over the past week, I've re-watched the Back to the Future trilogy and have a new respect for it as a series of three successful films. In particular, my appreciation of the third film grew quite a bit. The mechanism for getting Marty back to 1985 using 19th century machinery is just ingenious. Sure, you can find plot holes here and there, but, in general, it's so well-conceived, exciting and funny. I especially love how far the writers are willing to push the various things that can and do go wrong during Marty's various adventures.
Anyway ...
I DEMAND YOUR ARBIRARY RANKINGS!!!
I'm still pondering where to settle, but for now, I'm thinking something like ...
Part one ****
Part two ***1/2
Part three ***1/2
It's just a shame that they lost Crispin Glover for the last two. Could have been some great stuff there.

Haven't seen either in an age, and just going from the scores in my Excel sheet, but I guess I found the free-wheeling anarchy of the second one more bewitching, and admired the balls it took to literally revisit the original and find new angles to play with. But beyond that, I ain't got much else to offer in terms of defence.
The last one was rather boring though, I remember that.

Fair enough. Yes, it's really quite clever in the way it folds back in on itself.

I think it's impossible to dislike Back to the Future.
Though I'm sure they're out there.

I mean, it's fine for what it is, but on the basis of this and Cast Away (2000), Zemeckis isn't really doing anything particularly interesting with his mise-en-scene. I prefer Marker's La Jetee (1962), and especially Resnais' Je Taime, Je Taime (1968).

5. RowlandI'm not worthy of being on such a list. Also, I'm ranked too damn high :P
Back to the Future-95
Part II-75
Part III-80 or 83, or whatever. Its good.
While I understand the reasoning for having rushed the last two movies, had they taken a bit more time on the sequels the trilogy could have been truly great. Still its one of my favorite series, and I love all of them, even Part II. Oh and yes I'm waiting for the eventual sequel where Doc's evil son (if you've seen the ending of Part III you know what I'm talking about) facing off with Marty's offspring.
