Stupid premise, but interesting nonetheless. a 4 minute trailer too.

Yeah, this looks cool but the concept is goofy. If time is a commodity, how does one acquire more? Do I get paid in time at my job?

I stopped watching the trailer because it was so long and felt spoiler-y.

Interesting note: This is Roger Deakins' first movie shot on HD video (Arri Alexa). He's said he might not go back to film.

They showed this happening 30 seconds into the trailer.

Well then.

I think it's a brilliant premise.

I think the premise is genius from the point of view of pitching it to a studio, since it's basically an excuse to cast as many super attractive 25-ish actors into one movie as possible. Seriously, Amanda Seyfried, Olivia Wilde, JT, Alex Pettyfer, Matt Bomer, Cillian Murphy (who I assume will be 35 playing ten years younger) all in one movie? It's like a marketing dream. All of them could just rotate between every magazine and talk show in sight leading up to the release, plugging the movie in the fleeting seconds that people aren't entirely mesemerized by their faces.

But the theatrical trailer also makes the premise seem much more confusing. I'm pretty sure when I saw it in the theatre, they replaced "minutes" with "dollars" in the coffee scene, and it focused way more on Wilde (though, that might have been done strategically since it played before Cowboys & Aliens).

Either way I'll see it, especially since I've liked almost everything Niccol's been involved with so far in his career.

Hm, I love the premise. Looks like Niccol might be back in Gattaca-mode, which guarantees my attendance.

Good post, Henry Gale. I think the premise is confusing, at least as it is presented in the trailer. That almost doesn't matter though because this looks to be another scifi movie built around run-and-gun chases, featuring pretty people who live in museum quality, sterile homes and blithely ignore social injustice on a massive scale. Star Trek's The Cloud Minders meets Logan's Run. I'll see it out of curiosity but I'm a little tired of sci fi masquerading as paper thin morality plays in between car chases.

Finally saw the trailer for the first time in theaters, and besides being struck by how much it superficially resembles Gattaca, it sure looks gorgeous. And my Cillian Murphy man-crush was satisfactorily piqued.

I want to hate this film for ripping off Logan's Run and for being so slick and self-satisfied, but I find myself distracted by all the pretty people and thinking I want to see it.

Apparently, it is being accused of plagiarizing "Repent, Harlequin," Said the Ticktockman by Harlan Ellison. I just read it. I liked it a lot more than I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream which is widely beloved but I found annoying. It was better in concept than execution.

And, judging by the trailer, they're not that similar.

I really want to see this flick. I'm digging on the concept, and that's a helluva cast.

Its a good cast, but seeing JT in a sci-fi action movie feels a bit weird to me. I liked Gattaca (well most of what I saw-I keep forgetting to go back and finish it), and I don't mind that this film's concept seems to be borrowing a bit from Logan's Run. It might be decent, which is more than I can say for too many blockbusters released these days.

I thought the lawsuit temporarily torpedoed this thing?

The reviews are pretty much awful. I just saved ten bucks!

Hmm, I don't think the reviews are that bad, once you skim them. Most of the stuff people are complaining about are present in all of Niccol's work.

The premise is awesome and I've loved everything I've seen from Niccol, including what he's written. I consider Gattaca to be criminally underrated. I can't wait to see this!

Looks like garbage. It makes me angry that it exists.

I saw this movie. The critics were right that the execution wasn't very good. The story takes pretty typical turns. It's very heavy-handed and wildly implausible even within its own context. That said, I still enjoyed the movie, mostly because I liked the premise, and that at least carried my interest for half the film. I did catch myself wanting Niccol to succeed more than he actually was.

This is about what I'm expecting. Disappointing.

I liked it, but I wanted to feel more immersed, as I really liked the premise. I wanted to really get inside the minds of the people I was seeing and get a sense of what it would be like to live in this world. Instead it was Occupy Wall Street with a sci-fi twist. I thought it was consistently entertaining, but should have been better. Cast is a lot of fun though, cool seeing guys like Vincent Kartheiser and Matt Bomer on the big screen.

I felt the same way. I kept wanting to like it, but it just kept getting worse and worse. Also, for a 50-year veteran of the Timewatchers, Cillian Murphy was pretty terrible at his job.

Should have worked much better as series. The first half contains too many unintentional laughs. I like the Bonnie and Clyde-touch later on, and wish the movie should have gone there sooner.

I wish Hollywood would remake old film in In Time universe. Like, Pretty Woman, but with he paying her with time. How cool will that be?

I agree with everything in this post, but I could not get past most of the film's flaws. Although it's filled with "typical" turns, it's also filled with unexpected out of the blue "what the hell is he doing?" turns. His plan the entire time was becoming another Bonnie and Clide? Why do none of these banks have ANY security? JT is not a good actor and it shows. The only thing I enjoyed was the sci-fi element, which is sorta neat.

Too many cheap one offs- why was JT such a good poker player? We're expected to believe he'd go ALL IN, to increase his time from 100 years to 1000?

The worst line in the movie; "price includes delivery.
"delivery?"
"to wherever you're going to display it"
"display it? hell i'm gonna drive it"

I disagree JT is a good actor.

OK he's a decent actor. But he can't carry a film by himself.

I thought In Time was a really good movie and JT carried it so I'll disagree again. :-)

Imagine what Wong or Carax could've done with this premise. What a waste.

I think JT is a talented actor. Had no problems with his performance. The reason he's such a good poker player is because he's got nothing to lose. The idea is that he's a risk taker in ways people with time aren't. This is emphasized all throughout the film. I agree the plot gets a little ridiculous toward the end, but I thought the execution of the first half of the film was solid.

Imagine what Wong or Carax could've done with this premise. I don't think Wong would handle the political component well. Don't really see this as Carax territory either.
