The discussion from the FDT inspired me for this question:

What movies from your childhood era do you hate to admit that you saw in theaters?

Let's see if we can top one another.

Mine is basketball related... I saw Eddie (with Whoopi Goldberg) and The Sixth Man (with Marlon Wayans) in theaters. I have very faint memories but it's somewhere deep in my subconscious that I viewed these movies.

I have vague recollections of seeing Baby: The Last Dinosaur in theaters. I was only reminded of this when I noticed it was coming out on bluray. Hmm...Space Camp? I doubt that has held up. I mentioned this before, but The Last Starfighter has not held up well. I used to love the hell out of Howard The Duck. Speaking of Whoopi Goldberg, I saw Sister Act with me mum back in the day. I watch Teen Wolf about one a year. Never gets old.

I saw the movie with Lance Bass and the other guy from NSYNC in theaters on a double date in highschool.

We were the only ones in the theater, rightly so.

I will never revisit it.

Superman 3 and 4
A good number of the Police Academy films.
I saw Jaws 3D in 3D, and then went back a few years later and saw Jaws: The Revenge.
I also saw Popeye. Robert Altman's film at five years old was better than Robert Altman's film at 30+.

Mortal Kombat Annihilation.

What I came in here to post. Also, even as a child, I knew that Ninja Turtles 3 was missing something critical. It wasn't until later that I learned that "something" was "everything."

It wasn't until later that I learned that "something" was "everything."Yep, I liked the first two Ninja Turtles movies when I was a kid, but the third left me completely indifferent. And even as an indiscriminate 13-year-old, I knew Annihilation was balls.

I saw Buffy the Vampire Slayer the movie in theaters. I made my dad take me and he was begging to leave, and I refused. But even then, I knew it was pretty bad.

I went with one of my little brothers to A Kid in King Arthur's Court but I was already too old to enjoy it.

However, I saw Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves in theaters and thought it was the best movie ever.

I also saw Newsies in theaters and I still love it. Suck it, haters.

Probably one of my favorites was when I went to visit my girlfriend in her home state after freshman year. She was a big surfing nut and kept saying we needed to go see Blue Crush. I told her it was going to be awful, but she did that whole girlfriend thing so I went. The first 2 minutes of Blue Crush is actually really awesome, the rest of the movie blows hard. So after two minutes she leans over and she's like, "That's right, I win." Then afterwards she apologized.

I grew up on a farm so never saw any movies in the theatre until I was 8 or so. But once I did, I only saw good stuff - Gremlins 2, The Princess Bride, Jurassic Park, Labyrinth, Batman.

Oh wait, I saw Police Academy 4 on a rugby trip.

Secret of the Ooze is so bereft of stakes and full of bold miscalculations that it borders on sweet, delicious camp. "Why yes, in this situation, the Turtles would stop in the middle of a battle to begin a choreographed dance." "Why yes, it's logical that a mutagenic substance would alter the Shredder's clothes." Hell, they should've embraced the absurd crapulence and hired Adam West as the Professor character.

The Secret of the Ooze is one of the worst kid's movies I've ever seen. I will forbid my children from seeing it until they're old enough to comprehend its ineptitude, which as an adult has its amusing moments.

I didn't go to the movies very often when I was a preteen - early 80s and all that...parents were very particular about what movies got our money.

So, I think the closest I can come is a movie that came out right after I graduated high school (i hadnt yet turned 18, so it counts!): Look Who's Talking, Too!

My visiting grandfather insisted on taking me to the movies, and when he found out Life is Beautiful was subtitled, he insisted we see this instead. And then, of course, he held me culpable for the film being awful. A bizarre experience all around.

I think the previous film we had seen together was Excess Baggage, which may have been my fault.
