I'm playing this on Facebook, but this annoys me. I don't understand what the difference between these two is.

Duke, Army of Darkness is such a great movie.

I missed it at the theaters, somehow, and years later I walked into a video store and they had it playing on a crappy busted up 19" tv. Browsing around, I kept listening to the dialogue and finally went up front to watch (it was right at the beginning (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NeLUi_20Nrg)).

I stood there for like 15 minutes before I asked the guy if they had a copy.

PS: Your first video link there doesn't seem to work.

Not too much different, other then two shots, and a strange focus on someone that I don't even think is in the movie. Otherwise, I like the quick cut at the end more then the actual ending.

It was the first rated-R movie I've ever seen, and the only reason my father let me watch it was because he knew it was a soft R and it fit my personality and style of humor.

That is The Clash. And you're correct in there being different music as well. The normal version uses Sid Vicious. Both are fitting.

Thing I like about that clip isn't the dialogue (which is great), but that it subtlety underlines a major theme of the movie: That Roy, despite being artificial, is more human than Deckard.

Yeah, I always forget Blade Runner when thinking of the best directed movies. That and Alien are reasons why I always try out new Ridley Scott movies, even if most end up as shit, he's still made masterpieces. I really hope this prequel (or whatever it is) works out.

Holy shit, EXACTLY. I'm not a fan of the guy by any measure, but I'll always check out his movies just because of those two.

Btw, just came across this Brit documentary from 2000, "On the Edge of Blade Runner." I think it's on one of the DVD sets, but it's not something I've seen before. Interesting behind the scenes stuff, and it opens with a short rumination on the book:

Interesting that that one's your favorite, it kinda gets a bad rap around here. I liked it, but it was my first Kiarostami film (I saw it a good ten years ago). It definitely needs a rewatch, but I can't see it elevating over any of his Koker Trilogy films or Close Up for that matter.

It's the only one I've seen more than once, though. Except Ten, which is also fantastic. Both shot up in my esteem on 2nd viewing, so...

I often rail against shot/reverse-shot dialogue sequences. They're not inherently bad, the problem is that they're the most basic and so frequently the least interesting possible way to cover a scene; well, here's basically the most interesting way I've come across to cut between two actors talking in close-up:

I'm not sure this is the worst film I've ever seen, but it holds a special place in my heart. I saw it in theaters and it's the first movie I truly detested. Back then I had no interest in films and had seen very few, so I wasn't exactly picky either. For the record, I have not seen MSTK mocking this movie. Nope, I watched a copy of it without the commentary thanks to my local community college, which has their very own cable channel. This and I Spit On Your Grave are the two worst movies I've ever seen. Despite "Grave" being morally repulsive garbage, at least its a movie, and something of note happens on screen. Manos manages to be confusing, boring, beyond crazy, and also a complete waste of film strip. I also keep hearing that the guy who played Torgo after seeing the movie committed suicide. Even if that's not true, it only adds to the film's overall legend as being beyond terrible.

I may have personal reasons for disliking this film (ex-GF's favorite, watched it while going through the break-up), but I refuse to believe that I would be so petty. No, this is just a terrible film, a product coldly calculated by studio hacks, populated by emotional zombies, gross caricatures of how actual human beings might behave and feel, rendered in an artless and intelligence-insultingly obvious manner. I don't even feel like finding a Youtube link or image; suffice to say, shit like this is the opposite of what I look for in art.

Whoa, really? Heard that it's merely a dry-run for Dogtooth but the idea that films of such disparate quality from the same filmmaker exist seems bizarre.
I don't remember it very well, but I definitely don't remember it as a dry-run for Dogtooth. It doesn't have a cohesive narrative, let alone one with obvious potency like Dogtooth's; it's essentially just the images from the trailer repeated for the entire runtime—imagine people tripping each other, the guy accosting women, and the guy driving on a motorcycle on an infinite loop. Those images strike me as dull and often rather shoddy, with nothing of sufficient interest to warrant a whole movie of them. I also don't remember any humor or any distinct visual strategy akin to Dogtooth's. However, I won't stand by any of those assessments, since it's been 6 years since I saw it and my viewing might have been dampened by the mood in the theater (most of the audience walked out).

Genre categorization is a strange, highly subjective beast indeed. Half the movies being posted as dramas I'd classify as something else.

It seems to me that pretty much any movie that has a story is a drama. I'll just post A Woman Under the Influence.

Seems like almost anything would qualify as a drama, so I just picked a movie with a lot of talking.

I think I should have picked Stepmom or the Time Machine for my least favorite movie.

Yeah, I assumed we were talking about classic, Hollywood-styled drama, so I stayed away from austere stuff or films that could be in some other genres or subgenres.

I've mentioned it before, but I'll do it again. T2 is the perfect action movie. James Cameron is the master of setting up an action movie. Rarely can anyone else set up the geography, uniqueness of sequences, and also tell a separate story to each action scene in the movie.

In Terminator 2, he keeps building the suspense, what's at stake, and destruction. Here, early in the movie, is something that's better then in probably 70% of most action movies. The building tension of the two Terminators getting closer to John Connors in its own rather good search scene (with an excellent score)... Only for it to progress into a chase scene.

Aliens is also along these lines. Too bad Avatar doesn't really follow suit
