Match Cut Music Fans! It's that time of the year again! Time to wiggle off those pounds so you can more easily stuff yourself into that swimsuit, should it actually get warm enough to head to the beach this year (with the way this spring has been going up here in MN, I'm beginning to have my doubts), and what better way to melt off that fat than Shaking Your Booty to mad phat beatz! Okay, that sounded dumb.

Anyway, a lot of you know the drill, but for those of you that don't, here are the rules:

1) you post to this thread a song you think is great for dancing to. You get to figure out what type of dancing you have in mind, and what type of dance-song you want on the mix. I'll post the submissions here as I receive them.

2) I mix & mash the song with other songs posted by other people on this thread and make the whole mess into one contiguous DJ set.

3) I post that final mix up to some place from where you can download it, and post the link on this thread.

4) you burn it to a cd or load it into your mp3 player, fire it up, and dance your tookus off.

And now for the twist. Last year seemed to be unevenly biased towards electronic dance music, so this year we're going to go the opposite direction. I don't want a single electronic dance song on the mix. That is not to say that keyboards, synths, or even drum machines are not allowed - I just want the bulk of the sounds on the songs coming from live musicians rather than midi sequencers. You get to decide what that means. Got it? Good.

Okay, lets get those submissions coming in. As I receive them, I'll post them here. I'm aiming for around 15 songs total, but if I have more room, I'll open up a few more slots as needed. Good luck!

LOCKED!

Is "Bombay" by El Guincho too sample-based to be considered for this non-electronic for this Summer-y, dance-y playlist?

If so, I'll nominate Take It Easy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qSeAwowu8GE) instead.

....and that brings us to fifteen! Thanks for the requests, guys. Next part is for me to track down the tracks, and then work begins on formatting them into a collective mix.

And just to set expectations, I likely am not going to get very far on it this week, on account of a super huge work project I need to have finished by next weekend. So, if any of you have second thoughts about any of the songs, you have time to change your mind and get me new recommendations.

So you consider dancing to a song, but end up being to lazy to do it? Then you tell your friends that you wanted to dance to it and that you'll plan on doing so next time it plays. Maybe.

But that works too.

"Wolf Like Me" is one of those songs where you either dance to it or don't dance to it. Or you dance to it for a little bit. Or you dance to it for most of the song and then don't. I'm not a huge fan. I'd rate it a 92.

Also we were following bac0n's rules about possible music selections. Most of the truly great dance music has electronic beets and such, but he wanted a list that was different. Which I'm fine with, and apparently others are, as well.

Update: I have all but two of the songs I need. Thirdmango is going to try and email Galactic to me, and I haven't heard back from Endingcredits regarding 6 in 3's.

In the interest of moving things along, I'm going to give them until the end of the weekend, otherwise I am going to open up slots for whichever songs I have not received at that point, with Qrazy getting the first available slot.

I wanna be putting the mix together by the end of the day monday so I can have something for you guys a week from today.

Give me some mixing tips. I just started doing it (using Soundtrack Pro) and it's a lot of fun. I've only made one so far which I will post in the other music thread.

I'm by no means an expert, but what I've tended to do is find out the BPMs on the songs and try to have some sort of flow so there's not too much of a speed up or slow down from song to song. If two (or more) songs have BPMs within, say, 5 of each other, those songs become candidates for mashups. There are a few interesting combinations I was messing around with for this batch.

Other random tips that have worked for me - I like to start out with an attention grabbing song or two, something with a hook that's gonna pull someone into the mix right away, slow down in the middle, and build momentum towards the end.

As far as transitions from song to song are concerned, try to make them as transparent and smooth as possible. If that means letting a song fade out, then so be it. It's mostly a judgement call.

Finally, for the MCMT, I reserve myself two songs, which I use to patch up holes in the mix. If there's some song that would complete the flow between some other songs, or if there's a genre that is underrepresented (or omitted altogether) that would be the kind of song I would want to include.

Finally, 72 minutes of music is about all that can fit onto a single CD, so I aim to keep it shorter than that.

I'd be interested in seeing how you approach putting the songs together into a mix. Good luck! (Oh, and I'm still planning on doing this myself. Might be interesting for your to post yours and me to post mine, just to see what we each come up with)

Thanks for the info! I appreciate it. I wasn't planning to mash up these songs, just some other stuff and I'll probably stick to individual tracks for a while, not full album mixes, but maybe I'll take a crack at a song or two posted in here down the road.

Soundtrack Pro. Download a BPM Analyzer because I find my program doesn't register it very well and it's a pain in the ass to count it yourself. Give it a shot though! It's time consuming but a lot of fun. It took me about 7 hours or so to do my first track.

And I use Traktor, but there are a lot of smartphone/tablet DJ apps such as Touch DJ (http://amidio.com/dj/) that are awesome - and cheap.

Qrazy, if you want, I can post the BPMs of the songs.

I would love it if you did the BPM of the songs. I also use soundtrack pro for mixing loops to make random songs, so I think I can with a little tinkering do it as well.

Also for a while I was doing remixes and I would only do MC Chris remixes because he was the only one I could find who not only put up accapellas but also put up the BPM next to the track. Trying to find BPM is so annoying.

alrighty, was going to try and do this, it was relatively easy finding songs I didn't have with two very notable exceptions, short of probably having to buy them which I don't want to do, it was absolutely impossible to find copies of Do the Du and Mahalageasca.

I found a lot of remixed copies of Mahalageasca, but finding an original to download is a no go.
