Sounds boring, but The Ghost Writer is still my #1 of 2010 so Mr. Polanski, benefit, doubt, given. And it has Christoph Waltz.

For a second I though Marvel is getting a little too ambitious in their director hiring.

That crossed my mind for a second too. Had to do a double take when I saw John C. Reilly in the picture, as well.

Eh, don't like the premise. But we'll see.

It's called God of Carnage, and it's based on very legitimate, Tony-winning source material.

Based on a play. Got it. Typically I've liked those movies.

Just Carnage now apparently.

Sounds very Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolfish.

Even if it's not as good as Bitter Moon or The Ghost Writer, at least it'll be a solid piece of craftsmanship. These days, that's nothing to sneeze at.

Meh, after having watched a shit load of Tennessee Williams lately I have to say I'm pretty burnt out on the type of thing this project sounds like it's going to be.

Sounds like an acting showcase of epic proportion. High hopes.

That cast is enough to get me to see it, and I really dug The Ghost Writer.

I think this'll be great. Can't say no to a cast like that with Polanski. Wonder why they changed the name from God of Carnage to just Carnage, though.

Oh, I didn't realize that. That's silly and...blunt.

I had wanted to see the play. It sounds like it could be really funny. Guess I'll see the movie. The article makes it sound like Polanski rewrote it to be more drama than comedy.
I'd love to see Waltz and Reilly play those roles on stage, though.
Thought I'd update this thread, because the latest updated topics on this forum were:
Green Lantern
Hangover 2
Transformers: Dark of the Moon
Godzilla
Akira
The Man of Steel
Total Recall Remake
Batman 3
and that's kind of really embarrassing. I hope I don't have to wait eight months after its premiere to see it though, I couldn't handle that.

Us not talking about it is the movie's on fault for not premiering trailers at Wondercon, have decades of franchise history or generate speculation as to what famous characters will the actors involved play.

Damn, I thought this was a docudrama about the guy who used to chase Baloo all over the skies of Cape Suzette.
In all seriousness, this looks crazy. I can't wait.

Weird. I think Reilly is the only one that fits based on the trailer.

That trailer was hilarious. The Ghost Writer actually came to my area last year, so I'm hoping I have the same luck with this movie. If not, DVD awaits.

and the trailer pretty much confirms that. can't wait!
Oh hey, it looks like Christoph Waltz might be doing something a little different this time. :)
I genuinely laughed at that trailer. This has made my radar.

Saw this today. Hilarious, but Polanski added nothing to the play in translating it to cinema, and this story really fits the stage a lot better, particularly in its sudden non-resolution.
That said, these four would still be a dream cast to see perform this, on or off camera.

Also, kinda funny that a movie like this needed tons of CG (for the windows) that would not have been necessary if the director wasn't a wanted criminal in the place the story is set.

So did anyone actually see this? I'm thinking of seeing this tonight. (Or Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.)

It's worth seeing just for the cast, but for some reason I wasn't completely satisfied. Maybe it's a story that works a lot better on the stage. I would recommend checking it out, but it's not something I'd say needs to be seen in the theater.

Yeah, I saw it, but found it fairly terrible. Over-the-top was the intention, surely, but it's mostly either irritatingly broad (jesus, Jodie!) or implausibly developed. Feels more like an exercise than an actual film--and it's a tiresome, repetitive one at that.
Also, the cast is full of lightweights. They're all smashed and overly candid after a sip or two of scotch. Ridiculous.
