What release date does everyone go by when compiling lists? I guess it's not IMDb (?) since they list Uncle Boonmee as 2010 and so many here put it on their 2011 list...just curious.

I am guessing yuo are going by American release since that's playing at the MOMA or something. I find it so strange though, why you would do that as a Canadian, especially since that film was released years ago and is on DVD. I know this line of discussion is really tired, but it just does not make sense to my itty bitty brain.

I know this line of discussion is really tired, but it just does not make sense to my itty bitty brain.Maybe if I were still living in Canada, I would come up with a different criterion for inclusion, but seeing as I'm living in China at the moment, and only twenty or so foreign movies get an official release here each year (most of those Hollywood blockbusters, like Kung-Fu Panda 2 and Thor, which I can't be bothered with at my age), it makes more sense to go by US dates.

I'm still hoping Tree of Life finds its way to my local large multiplex, but I'm not holding my breath. I'm pretty sure though that 2011 will end up being better than 2010, despite the glut of superhero movies (although some of them actually look good/are good).

Did Love Exposure get a US 2011 release that I'm unaware of? Seems kinda odd that it's popping up on a lot of this year's lists.

The last couple weeks I've been looking through people's lists and watching some of these flicks at random. It's kinda made me think this is a cruddy year for movies.
Not that they're bad. They're just not what I usually think about when I think top ten movies.
EDIT: That 'Jane Eyre' adaptation is absurdly good though.

Sorry, were you talking to me or an earlier poster?Since you're the first person to have posted in this thread in four days, I'd say it's safe to presume I was speaking to you. :)
Just noticed that you added Hanna to your HMs despite giving it a nay, whereas you liked Fast Five but it makes no appearance. Just a curious observation.

Heh! Good observation. I didn't notice that.
The HMs on the list are movies that I thought had some amazing elements (most of them technical) but I felt failed overall (mostly in their narratives).
I enjoyed Fast 5 for what it was, but it's something of a factory product & not particularly memorable or noteworthy.
