I also just realized after looking at the vote totals that had I actually bothered to vote for Best Supporting Actor, there would have been a tie. Huh.

Virtuosity where now?I don't know about you, but I thought the handling of the violence in the film was pretty shocking.

Bah, it's really gonna bug me that Exit Through The Gift Shop doesn't have its own thread. Anyone care if I start one?

I don't know about you, but I thought the handling of the violence in the film was pretty shocking. So that's virtuosity? Perhaps you're saying the formally rigorous, unflinching static-ness makes the shocking violence that much more effective, but then again I'm not criticizing Dogtooth because it's violence is not bracing enough - in fact, pretty much the opposite, I find the film's agenda for the macabre and grotesque a bit vulgar.
Anyway, I can't fathom how the constituency David Bordwell's arguing against can see Welles's dramatically vivid, active, formally virtuosic but also highly empathic camera as "soulless"... and if that's what you're trying to imply I'm doing to Dogtooth... ooooh, baby doll! When I get my hand's on youuu...!! :P
There's little I would change about Dogtooth, since Lanthimos's vision is so precise and clear, but I just don't love it, and I find it a bit redundant and transparent.
Anyway, I won't belabor myself further, as Dogtooth is good, and does have soul. ButIdothinkit'sofficiallyoverr ated.

I forgot to vote for this. If I had, Scott Pilgrim would have tied with Inception for best visual effects, True Grit would have tied with Enter the Void for cinematography, and Dogtooth may have tied with Black Swan, since I like both about equally and could have voted for either on whim, and likely would have chosen Dogtooth just to be a contrarian because I was sensing a Black Swan win.

I'm sorry I disappeared after promising to give out the Actress awards. I was too busy partying and celebrating with Olivia Williams after you sent the PM informing me she won. The other Williams (Michelle) was there, too, and I had to consistently remind her that she's revelatory and won my vote, at least.

Can I get links to the previous Matchies threads? I loved this one and I can't remember the titles well enough to find them in the search engine.

I also would have voted for Dogtooth as well. :/
I do like Black Swan a lot though.

Never mind, I just found all but 2007. If anyone can recall the title for that one, much obliged.

We were varied at least...
Black Swan - 4 (Picture, Director, Actress, Makeup)
The Social Network - 3 (Adapted Screenplay, Score, Ensemble)
Inception - 3 (Original Screenplay, Visual Effects, Art Direction)
Scott Pilgrim VS. The World - 3 (Editing, Sound, Song)
Blue Valentine - 1 (Actor)
Exit Through the Gift Shop - 1 (Documentary)
Enter the Void - 1 (Cinematography)
The Ghost Writer - 1 (Supporting Actress)
Winter's Bone - 1 (Supporting Actor)
True Grit - 1 (Costume Design)
The Illusionist - 1 (Animated Film)
Greenberg and Tron: Legacy were the bust of the Awards, getting five noms each, winning 0.
Replace Black Swan with The King's Speech and the top three is almost exactly how the Oscars turned out.

When I was working a mindless office temp job, my internet posting was so much more ambitious.
