Audio levels need to be tweaked a bit. It also sounds like the mic is a little too close to your mouth for the first minute or so (while the Transformers music is playing).
Other than that, sounds great! Awesome work.

Good times.

Yeah, like I mentioned at the end of the podcast, I think we'd benefit greatly from a schedule. Keep discussions down to just a couple of minutes for each topic, and keep things moving forward.
I also think we should work out some kind of system to avoid talking over each other so much. Since we're not all in the same room it's hard to tell when someone has something to say, so we need to figure out how to not cut people off, and avoid all talking at once.
Other than that, it was a fun conversation. It was great to attach some voices to the posters.
Looking forward to next week!

This is a great cast!!!
my suggestion:
Intro everyone 1 by 1 so listeners can get a feel for who's voice belongs to who.
edit: also, is there a reasons why voices are coming in as mono sound?
2nd suggestion:
When you're not talking, there's a mute button on the skype interface. Please please press it. There's nothing more annoying than hearing people breathe, cough and adjust their microphone when you're trying to hear someone's response.
suggestion 3:
When someone says something like "life changing experience", moderator, pry into that? That's an interesting statement. I'm sure we all have similar experiences from our favorite movies but I'd love to hear what people get out of certain movies, emotions, feelings, relating it to RL experiences, etc etc.
"why was it your life changing experience?"
"what did you get out of it?"
"that's a bold statement!"

I have a bunch of professional microphones that have 1/4" plugs, but of course a computer only has the standard 3.5mm size.

I'm gonna have to pass this time. Nowhere quiet in the house right now. You guys would hate me every time I unmuted my mic. Actually, if these are going to regularly take place around 8, I'm going to have a tough time making it happen. 9 or later and I could swing it, since the kids will be in bed.

Erm I quite like Christopher Nolan and The Dark Knight.
My selections would have been as follows...
The opening scene of Death in Venice because it's a great shot with the hauntingly beautiful Mahler score... rest of the film is balls.
Final scene of Zabriskie Point because Antonioni completely missed the mark with everything else in the picture but shite exploding in slow motion to Pink Floyd is always awesome.

Film criticism has never done anything for film, but it's kind of like expecting LA Confidential to do anything for the police force. It's just another subject to write about, and can be done poorly or well just like anything else. It's irritating when critics hold little symposiums trying to make out that they are actually vital to the cinematic process and that the death of film criticism would be some sort of international tragedy.
No, you are writers who choose to write about films. The end.

There is good criticism and interesting theories, and intriguing insights into completed films - just as there are interesting insights into love in many great novels. But love didn't need A Farewell to Arms, and movies don't need critics.

So there are good and interesting and intriguing things about it, but it's deemed "necessary?" Are movies necessary themselves? Come on, now...I think you already showed you see how they can be useful/important, and now it's just semantics. Of course film criticism has done stuff for film. Whether it's a movement at large, a reevaluation, or your PERSONAL experience.
EDIT: And when I say personal, I just mean that I'm glad I've read certain film criticism, and I'm sure others are too...that's enough for me.

What spurred the post was the idea of a discussion about the "state of film criticism" as if it has an importance beyond the typical subjective judgements of whether someone can write or not. It could be argued perhaps that it could be discussed as you would journalism, which has its own ethical standards and a true linking function between audience and content, but I don't think so, because the content being discussed is the subjective response to entertainment, not the factual basis of the world around us, and therefore does not have the importance of true journalism, and thus not worthy of navel-gazing blog wars about the merits of print vs. online criticism etc.
Even the claim that criticism can influence box office is tenuous, seeing as you can spread the word on a film just as easily in the 140 characters of twitter from a bunch of faceless strangers.
So in other words, my analysis of the state of film criticism is this: some people do it well, others badly, and it has always be thus, and will ever be thus, and the end.

Well, how are you defining criticism? Do you just mean only reviews, or are you including books, Bordweel & Thompson, and all that good stuff? Because while I think the value of the first is perhaps more minimal, I find the latter quite important. I don't know if you are drawing any distinction here though.
I think film criticism may have had more of an effect on the box office, but I think modern technology has changed that quite a lot...still, an overall rating--the Tomatometer--can have some effect.
Well, yeah, to your last paragraph. I think it's that way with many things...

Relax guys, I'm just sharing Farber's soundbite as an example of how passionate people can get (and have every right to get) about criticism, and I'm sure the man himself was offering it as a subjective provocation. Personally I spend more time nowadays reading about film than watching them, and yes, the recent spate of symposiums on the subject of newspaper buyouts and firings and the worth of the internet is redundant and self-congratulatory at worst (but largely over by now), but film criticism still plays an important role in establishing a tone of discourse for most people who care about film as art and blah blah blah...
None of this is really addressing trans' argument so Imma go read a review and decide whether or not to see the movie in question in the near future and then go to bed so fuck y'all

I had trouble with Skype on my Mac, but I have a working mic and webcam, so I really donno what the problem is. Could be I'm that I'm horrible with computers....
No need for a webcam. Just do the test call on Skype.

I finally have internet in the new house. This is the first real awesome broadband I've ever had! This is so cool. I'm nabbing podcasts like a loon. Can't seem to access the Match-Cut pod cast page. Is it...not for me? Or am I just going to the wrong page, or broken link?

Just do a search for Match Cut in iTunes and you'll get it in the podcasts.

I would be up for one tomorrow night but not too late as I work the next morning.
What time?
I'll try to get a better mic set up for it. I really want to take part in another one.
