Hey match cutters. My friend and his girlfriend just moved to NYC and she emailed me about taking him around the city on Valentines Day to locations of classic romantic scenes in NYC. I ended up blanking on suggestions besides Woody Allen's Manhattan. I need your expertise here.
If you have one, please briefly describe the scene. Also if you know the general location in the city (or even the exact location if you're that amazing) please add that.
Go!

An Affair to Remember - the couple agrees to reunite at the top of the Empire State Building.

Yeah, you say "except Manhattan" and the first thing you get is a poster for Manhattan.
Anyway, the first thing that came to my mind was the dance between Sport and Iris (and who the hell knows where that was shot?) so I'm obviously not in a New York City romantic spirit today.

Katz Deli for When Harry Met Sally. Not exactly romantic though.
Something must have happened in Central Park, right?

That was the joke.

Serendipity III (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serendipity_3) (Serendipity) is a popular tourist spot, I think. Probably too cheesy for the folks here, but might be a nice suggestion if her film knowledge isn't as extensive as the average MC poster.

Well, it's also still the only romantic image of any power that's coming to my mind. I guess I've just never had romantic associations with the city, or at least not the sort that this thread is seeking.

I recommend The Exploding Girl.

I have no idea where in the city it was filmed, though. Not a lot of landmarks that I recognized.

I like this movie.

Dang. There was some romantic indie movie several years back that took place in Harlem I think. He was Black, she was Mexican... Maybe. Ugh... He ended up getting a career out of the performance though...
Sorry, drawing a blank.

Raising Victor Vargas (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0316188/)? Either way, that's a good movie that'd fit the bill.
Also, Aaron Katz's Quiet City.
Not even sure that's helpful without specific scenes/locations.

That's the one. Thank you. It was killing me figuring it out.

Maybe something from The Royal Tenenbaums?

Ed Norton and Rosario Dawson towards the end of 25th Hour. It involved a bag of ice and a bloody face.

Maybe someone who's actually seen the film could give a specific scene/location, but surely there's something from West Side Story?

The scene where the guy does that thing?
And he's at that place...you know the place I'm talking about. There's that building.
You know, right?

Sorry, I don't know the scene you're referring to. Your language is vague and I haven't seen the movie.

I thought I was pretty specific.

I don't think very much of that movie was filmed in New York City, except some of the gang war. The romantic death scene (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ycTwZh4nBt0) might have been filmed on a real basketball court, I'm not sure.

Raising Victor Vargas takes place in the Lower East Side, not Harlem, and the neighborhood is quite different now.
Quiet City is a great recommendation, and it takes place almost entirely in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Walking along any of the avenues is a fine idea--5th and 7th are the most commercial, but 6th and 8th are beautifully tree-lined, and then Prospect Park West lines the park. And, of course, any park is romantic (it doesn't hurt that Prospect Park is rather gorgeous).

Thanks for the ideas. A few of the suggestions I already discovered through some internet searches. I was shocked as to how little I could pull up and it looks like i wasnt the only one. You would think cinema history would be ripe with New York romantic-ish scenes.

Maybe from that Paris Je T'aime movie, except with New York?

Requiem for a Dream has that nice scene where Leto/Connelly work there way to the top of a rooftop. Maybe one of the three light scenes in that movie.
