Well, we're certainly going out with a bang. :|Obscure, yeah, but he seems to be more solid than a number of directors we've done.

My Friend Ivan Lapshin (1984) - 9.0
Khrustalyov, My Car! (1998) - 7.0

Oh, I've heard of him, but only around here. Haven't seen anything though and probably never will unless I get over my KG-phobia.

It'd be shame to end this before doing Garry Marshall or Rob Cohen (link pleez if we have, been dying to see if MC prefers Beaches to Exit to Eden or not!). I mean, everyone's already seen films from those guys, so we'd only have to worry about quickly jotting down numbers and not giving a shit about the results rather than this bullshit idea of trying to get recommendations of potentially great yet unexplored directors.

My Friend Ivan Lapshin - 7.5

Who wouldn't want to know what everyone else thinks of Garry Marshall? A magpie, that's who.

Why do you say that? I know I'm dying to re-watch and rate and rank all of Garry Marshall's films.

MadMan

I'd have to check, but I don't think I've seen a lot of Rob Cohen or Gary Marshall movies, either. Good sarcastic post, though. I half-heartedly salute the effort.

Against my better judgment, but:

Rob Cohen:
Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story (1993) - 4.0
Dragonheart (1996) - 3.0
The Fast and the Furious (2001) - 3.5
xXx (2002) - 2.0

Garry Marshall:
Overboard (1987) - 3.0
Pretty Woman (1990) - 5.5
Exit to Eden (1994) - 1.5
Runaway Bride (1999) - 2.0
The Princess Diaries (2001) - 4.0

With this post both Rob Cohen and Garry Marshall have more films rated than Aleksei German in his own thread.

You're so right. I can't wait to search exhaustively to find a collection of films that seems to be headed for a 7.5 out of 10 in a Match Cut consensus! I mean, movies that promising need to be seen immediately! Fuck, I better dig through all of these threads and make a list of all the films that ended in the sevens. Who knows what other moderately good gems I've been missing! Also, can't wait for all of these films to not have enough votes to qualify. I mean, nothing like ending on a director who won't show up in the final cut of our film database!

Well, Qrazy and endingcredits would both give Ivan Lapshin a 10 and it's on the 1,000 Films to See Before You Die list. I appreciate that you take my rating as scripture, as you should, but there are plenty of people who consider him a great filmmaker. Point is, what do we get out of compiling everyone's ratings ONLY of filmmakers we've all heard of and films we've all either seen or already heard of!? Not to go all baby doll, but christ, it does get frustrating when people get pissy about any challenge to the traditional canon (let's rate and rank Kubrick for the 19th time, yeah!!) or *gasp* having a consensus thread that might get you to check out films you've never heard of instead of remind you to see films you already planned on seeing.

Final grading for Derek and KF's sarcastic posts:

KF's=Funny
Derek's=Kind of amusing

Verdict: KF wins. What does he win? Nothing. Pride, maybe.

PS: Derek's retort though was quite good. I liked that.

Yeeeeaaaaahhhhh, but I was only commenting on him being the final director, not him being part of the consensus at all. Also, Qrazy and endingcredits ratings are not in this thread. Only one nine and a couple other sevens. Ssssssoooooooooooo... I win.

Somehow I overlooked this thread. After multiple viewings of most of these, I'll go with

My Friend Ivan Lapshin - 10
Trial On The Road - 9.0
Khrustalyov, My Car! - 8.5
Twenty Days Without War - 7.5.

German is definitely worthy of having a consensus on. The fact that he's the grand finale pleases me.

Well I'm in the process of checking them out, but that had less to do with the thread and more to do with endingcredits threatening physical violence when I told him I had only seen The Seventh Companion.

It really is fantastic. You guys should check it out. Here's a pretty high quality video (http://www.veoh.com/browse/videos/category/drama/watch/v19375563rmGrszea) I found. And it's down even a download or anything, you can just watch it right away (well, you have to download a veoh player, but that's quite easy).

According to this, he has another movie that came out or is coming out. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_Arkanar_massacr e

Is that accurate? There are links to Russian articles--does anyone here read Russian?
