I highly recommend it. It's not a laugh riot, though I found myself quietly amused throughout, and occasionally it is extremely funny. Rather, the book is a trip through Patton's mind and memories, mostly combining to give you a rough picture of who he is, why he is the kind of person he is and how he got here. There is immense sadness in the book, as well as frustration and ponderings about life and his life. Not everything works, but much of it does. It is very well written, I thought, especially given that it veers in different stylistic directions, but not so widely as to slip off the track. There's a mini story as from a graphic novel right in the middle of the book, for instance, and one sort of heartbreaking chapter is written as a fuzzy child memory of his young self. The whole has stayed on my mind since finishing it, and I'd like to pick it up again to piece through it. If you like funny-sad, you'd enjoy it. It gave me some things to think about.
