I own physical media, have a good local public library and use three pay streaming sites plus several free ones. So yeah I don't pirate anything.

I usually only illegally stream a handful of things a year., stuff I desperately want to see, but refuse to brave opening weekend crowds. Theaters around me are so unpoliced for riffraff, and I'm sick of asking for my money back. Usually only stuff I KNOW I will be buying on bluray anyway, so they'll get my money. Or stuff like the last Terminator, I dont feel bad about. I've bought the series on VHS, dvd, bluray...I think I'm owed a free shit ticket with Korean subtitles and people walking in front of the camera.

I have nothing against piracy. In fact all of this multiple streaming service nonsense is going to lead to more piracy. Although I do try to make sure indie cinema gets my hard earned money.

Netflix streaming must have some really niche stuff. I just started last month but I'm probably going to cancel in a few days. Amazon Prime is really good and they just added a whole bunch of really good older films. Jodorowsky, Bunuel and others come to mind. I'll keep my Netflix Blu-Ray subscription as that still has the best selection.

Extraction is hot garbage. My roommate agrees - it's hard to take your work any kind of seriously when you have your main character jump off a cliff into the ocean just to meditate. The one-take shot is nice, however - although, it's one of those where you can feel the digital gears turning, as you're watching it.

Netflix often recommends older stuff they just got that I already saw. I then rate it just so they leave me alone for a bit. They still have a better interface than Hulu.

Mucho Mucho Amor - the Walter Mercado documentary is a light enjoyable 90 minute journey into the man and his image. It does have more of a business angle, but as someone who just saw him a few times on Univison when I was a kid, and had no idea who or what he was about, its worth a look to understand his appeal. I might have given it a high score on LB just for the capes.

I know Spinal had a thread up from 2018 when it was on the now defunct YouTube Red, but is anyone watching "Cobra Kai?" I've gotten pretty addicted to it. Cheesy in an '80s movie way, but lots of fun. The Johnny character is interesting / funny as all getout. Trapped in the past, classic case of a Gen Xer who was badass in the '80s attempting to navigate the 21st century.

A boo to you, good sir. While the final season of Hannibal never hits the heights of the first two seasons, I always loved how audacious it was in weaving together experimental art collage--and a fairly steamy love scene--alongside more traditional procedural elements. I suppose there's something unbelievable in most not suspecting Lecter as the ultimate bad, but I found that this series was a great TV experiment in allowing that not everyone would be on its wavelength.

I'd personally put S3 of Hannibal above S1, particularly for the Red Dragon arc.

S2 is still the best of all. Nearly perfect.

I was really into season 1 as a prequel to Manhunter, season two was okay until it started dipping into the movie plot, and now I'm falling asleep while playing games on my phone. I don't see the point? The movies exist and did it better. I'm just not interested in a 14 hour version of Manhunter. Manhunter and Red Dragon did it fine in movie-length time. Its not that its poorly made, I'm disinterested. I know I'm way alone on this island, but I'm ready for this to be over so we can get on with rewatching the movies.

Hannibal leaves real world behind definitively some time in Season 2 and is all the better for it. Not surprised that it's not for everyone (although I see it mostly beloved), but very surprised that from Skitch's post it seems like he watches it mostly for the plot, when I thought the (more common) complaint, if there is any, is that the style becomes the whole show.

I've been accused on more than one occasion of liking movies that are style over substance and was a fool for it. Now its okay to like style-over-substance?

I noticed on my acct my 16 year old daughter had watched a couple eps. I told her, "I don't know that you're quite ready for that." She said "Yeah, its pretty gross and I didn't quite get it."

Wife and I agree, its hilariously accurate to sex and that age, but its also designed for people that have been through it and can reflect on it. Not for people currently going through it. To be clear, we dont edit the daughter too much...but on some things...

Big Mouth had been pretty great for three seasons. Season 4 is still good, but I feel like it's the weakest one so far, with more than a few storylines and character arcs starting to feel too repetitive now. Two fresh exceptions: Missy's arc (which is GREAT, just incisive, new, and funny) and Jay-Lola's romance, which veers Jay away from past too-juvenile-for-me material (though unfortunately it doesn't stick to the season's end), and they are hilarious together.
