Trailer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m8W-paarh4s)

Not sure what to make of this one. At the very least, it looks like the most substantial role of Jovovich's life. Also jarring to see De Niro do something seemingly provocative again.

Didn't realize this just got released. Reviews are middling.

She's quite, um, appealing in this trailer.

Indeed she is. If only the movie was as appealing as she was, I might actually see it.

Seems to go with any movie she appears in unfortunately.

BTW, take a look at her in the movie premiere for this movie. Wow.

...and Praise, one of the unsung gems of the 90's.

Norton looks ridiculous.

Absolutely. This needs to be stressed.

It's sort of amusing how badly Edward Norton wishes he was Robert De Niro. He just can't get it through his head that he is and always will be a skinny, nerdy white dude, and not a badass. This is why his best role will always be Fight Club. He's been miscast in just about everything else.

Norton looks ridiculous.

There are plenty of real life scrawny white boy criminals who look just as ridiculous. Let's see if it is part of the film's take on the character.

Wow, I disagree. But then, I don't look at his roles and see a list full of supposed badasses.

Movies in which Norton was appropriately cast:

Primal Fear
Rounders
American History X
Fight Club
Keeping the Faith
Death to Smoochy
Frida
25th Hour

I would add...

The Incredible Hulk
Pride and Glory
The Illusionist
Kingdom of Heaven
Red Dragon
The Score

While not neccesarily good films, I don't see a problem with his casting in those roles.

Kingdom of Heaven
Red Dragon

He was soooo baaaaad in these.

Norton is a fine performer in the right part. Generally, that part requires cocksurety and a bit of a wink.

This looks good, I think. I stopped the trailer, because it was annoyingly trailery, but I'd see it. Norton looks fine. Like I said: cocksurety, wink.

I have never seen a better Norton performance than in Death to Smoochy.

He's good in Kingdom of Heaven, bad in Dragon.

Stone looks horribly bland. Conviction also looks bland to me with a tangentially similar story.

Again, I was responding to the comment that he is miscast, not that those were stellar pieces. I can't think of anyone who would have improved those roles with the material being what it was.

All you needed was a good voice actor for Kingdom of Heaven. Norton is not that. And Red Dragon just needs someone who looks like a believable police heavy, ie, William Peterson. Also, hopefully with a believable tan.

I strongly agree with this.

Always thought Norton was kind of unconvincing as an actor. Seems he built an early reputation on this sort of innate edginess about him, but that "great actor" reputation seems to have worn off after more roles exposed his limitations. I still remember the time they marketed The Score as containing the three greatest actors of their respective generations (Brando, De Niro, and Norton). Pretty laughable if you think about it now.

Now? It was laughable then. All three were fucking terrible in that movie.

No. I watched about half of it. I might get back to it at some point out of idle curiousity .. but it's not very good.

It's a small, independent film with some interesting ideas in it. I kept tripping over the heavy presence of the stars though, and their performances.

Awful movie. The Ed Norton hate is pretty bizarre, though. Dude's a pretty great actor, just not so much lately.
