From the guy who did The Lives of Others.

I only moderately liked The Lives of Others, but I have to admit the trailers would not have clued me in at all that he could have directed and co-wrote this. Still, I like the actors and pedigree involved here (Christopher McQuarrie and Julian Fellowes co-wrote as well) despite the rather rote-looking trailer. I may have to give this a shot.

This must be a pile if a film with this cast and this director released at the holidays is not getting a smidge of Oscar buzz or push.

I was thinking the opposite actually.

I like that no movies are really demanding the Oscar buzz this year as it's mostly hurt the movie's chances in the past few years. The only one doing it seems to be The King's Speech, and I think that's what might ultimately stop it from getting Best Picture.

This looks pretty lame. But then, I didn't care for The Lives of Others either.

I swear that guy on the train in the trailer is Tom Hardy, but when I check imdb, he's not listed. Weird.

What a brilliant idea. Put Depp and Jolie in a movie together, only to have him play a bloated schlub. Exactly what people want to see. Good thing it looks excruciatingly banal. The hysteria might be too much to control otherwise.

Granted, the only reason why The Tourist may be outright ignored by Sony as an Oscar contender might be because they have The Social Network to fall back on as a shoo-in frontrunner.

I'm in. That room service line is pretty funny.

I think this looks like great fun, nothing more, nothing less.

Two words: come on. There is absolutely nothing about this film that screams "Oscar campaign." Even if it ends up being good, why would anyone devote even a penny to campaigning for this film? It is being advertised as a lightweight espionage thriller/comedy. This is not an Oscar film. You're over-thinking this.

Weird, weird casting. Feels a little North by Northwest mixed with Charade.

The male lead seems better suited for George Clooney or Matt Damon, guys who can play an everyman type with decent comedic timing.

Jack Lemmon and Audrey Hepburn in their prime would have been perfect for this kind of movie.

I have seen a total of zero Angelina Jolie dramatic performances (Wanted?), but I was charmed by her line deliveries in this trailer.

Yeah if anything, I think Sony is looking at this like WB did with Sherlock Holmes last year: Hopes that it becomes a big holiday movie, with likable and marketable leads and an easy plotline to sum up in advertising, but with any hopes of awards as a nice afterthought. Though, Downey did win a Golden Globe last year for that one, so you never know what they're thinking.

I still think this will do a lot better than people think. Depp and Jolie are a much more exciting espionage couple on screen than Cruise and Diaz are/were 10 years ago. I mean, even Salt managed to make $300 million worldwide.

big Yay.

It does bring back memory of classic hollywood in which action and triller relied on the location and the chemistry between the leads rather than...whatever they rely on these days.

I am so proud that I catch the big spoiler WAY earlier. In fact, I even caught it in the trailer, which, come to think of it, might not be a good sign.

Regarding what Irish said about the casting, it is in fact the perfect casting. Might actually be too perfect and that's why the ending is transparent to me. Gimme a break, Depp ain't gonna play anyone's fall guy!

Eh, not terrible just oddly bland. Flat digital photography that does nothing for its location and quite possibly a career worst performance from Depp. He and Jolie lack palpable chemistry: Shame about Paul Bettany throwing his talent away on shit like this, Creation and Legion. Not worth the ticket price.

How is Timothy Dalton in this? His last big role was probably Hot Fuzz and he was great in that.

He's rather non-existent. It's kinda weird that they get a lot of A list actors and put them in thankless roles.
