This was cute. Loved the opening shot.

The marketing inexcusably reveals a twist two-thirds of the way through.

Yeah I was worried about this...

The original synopsis I read, as well as some footage that was released early on made the plot out to be that Megamind actually kills Metro Man, then the rest of it was him trying to deal with the fact that that was his only purpose and now he didn't know what to make of his rule over the city. I swear I saw a clip where something is lauched at Pitt's character and then a skeleton falls to the ground in front of the villain.

Now the commercials seem to pitch it as METRO MAN RETIRES and then later show him with a beard playing a ukulele, clearly not dead. Then also showing Jonah Hill's character taking over as his own superhero/villain.
This could have all been changed along the way, as many Dreamworks films seem to do. I read the original synopsis when Robert Downey, Jr. was supposed to be the title character.

Either way, I just wish there was a single joke in any of the clips I actually found amusing. I still don't understand why Fey and Ferrell's characters scream at the sight and sound of the thing I referred to in the second half of the above spoiler bit. It just makes me very confused and kind of afraid.

This was... ok. Some really laugh out loud moments, but there are stretches of just plain unfunny. It's a fun riff at superheroes and their villains, but dude, this can't compete in the same universe as The Incredibles.

David Cross was probably the best part.

Love the story. Very existentialist and many layered. Megamind, Metroman and Titan, all are complicated in their own right. Unfortunately, the production doesn't seem very refined. Especially the character design. Dreamwork really must rethink their aesthetic.
