I think it's officially time we switch over to doing actor consensuses.

That's ridiculous. There's still a ton of directors out there that are worthwhile to do. Joe Johnston isn't one of them, but I don't think because he pops up one week that that should be the end of these. The next 6 weeks consist of good/great directors.

Even though he only made five films, I'm all for covering Cornel Wilde sometime. Mainly because I recently saw and liked The Naked Prey.
Honey, I Shrunk the Kids (1989) (director)-8.0
The Rocketeer (1991) (director)-7.5
Jumanji (1995) (director)-6.5
October Sky (1999) (director)-7.5
Jurassic Park III (2001) (director)-7.0
Hidalgo (2004) (director)-7.0
He's an okay director who's made some entertaining movies. I like him well enough-maybe one day he'll knock something out of the park.

According to the scores, JPIII is more well received here than The Lost World. That is disgusting.

Surveying his last decade, the chance that Captain America is good: pretty much nil

I came in late so I'll just say I like the top three very much. The others not so very much.

Its correct, though. JP III is better than the rather bloated and mediocre Lost World.
No way. The Lost World is actually about something, namely the strength of the parent-child bond (key theme in Spielberg's filmography), in this case as it encompasses all sorts of species, building on the 'life finds a way' moral of the first film; it has flaws, sure (like the groan-inducing scene of the little girl kicking the Raptor, or the fact that the protagonists are actually the cause of most of the problems), but it's overall successful, and it's held up for me on repeated viewings. Plus it has some amazing action sequences; the set-piece with the truck hanging on the cliff is better than the entirety of it JPIII, which is just a soulless cash-in.

Surveying his last decade, the chance that Captain America is good: pretty much nilI hope based on the title that it's about a rabid tea-bagger who wants to take his country back by rounding up illegal immigrants.

Oof. The two reasons I participated: (1) Jumanji is a childhood favorite and (2) I wanted to knock the dreadfully dull The Rocketeer, October Sky, and Jurassic Park III down another peg.
Honey, I Shrunk the Kids: 6.0
The Rocketeer: 4.0
Jumanji: 7.0
October Sky: 4.0
Jurassic Park III: 3.5

And the most thrilling scene doesn't even involve dinos. I'm speaking of that pier + boat scene. The build-up is masterful and the boat emerging from the darkness looks terrifying. But, but perhaps I prefer JP III. I'm not sure.
