Unimpressed. Didn't even know this was in the works.

The cast is great, and both trailers showcased a nice balance of action and comedy. Appears good to me.

Bump to this thread as it's actually out now.
Red is the film The Expendables should have been and quite a bit more. It's not particularly original, and I wish the storyline that it finds necessary to add some weight to things had been a little less rote than it was, but the characters are great, the pace is terrific and every scene is filled with at least one new and amusing quirk or stylistic choice that usual helps rather than distract from things.
Everyone in it is pretty great, especially Parker, Malkovich and the unbilled Brian Cox. In the end, despite its flaws and expected lack of staying power, for me, it's one of the more strictly entertaining movies of the year.

Really like it as well. It tells a similar story to Ronin, but with a comic book spin that does enchant the material. I second that the cast is great, but want to add that I find Karl Urban particularly effective in his role.

If it wasn't for my lack of funds, yes I would have already seen it. Looks awesome to me.
But I thought there was another thread for this movie already.

This is as well made and entertaining as it is instantly forgettable. The movie has a nice sense of humor, with the first half hour completely changing my expectations of what was the story going to be like. And, needless to say, the cast is all great, with special mention to Malkovich and Mirren. The problem for me is that I saw the movie yesterday (somewhat stoned, I admit) and I can't remember any stand-out joke or moment other than perhaps Ernest Borgnine's cameo. I don't know. I echo someone's sentiment a few posts before that it's the starfest The Expendables was once advertised as being. But once it becomes clear that nothing that happens in the film is going to be taken seriously, and that there's not the slightest chance that a lead character gets hurt, my interest in the plot was gone.
But, again, it's not a bad movie. Just one that leaves no print.

This. Couldn't agree more, and I saw it sober. It's a fun movie, pleasant diversion with an incredible cast but pretty much defines "flash in the pan."
The most startling thing is that Borgnine is a whopping 90 years old and can still hold up his end.

Ah found this thread.
Debating on whether to watch the 2nd movie. It was OK, even if I am to believe a bunch of retired CIA agents could taken on younger FBI, SWAT and Secret Service teams... the action just felt slow. The humor was OK i guess but I can't say it really struck a chord-If I were to watch the 2nd one, I'd want better choreographed action scenes (like Willis stepping out of the car) instead of Helen Mirren just standing there with a machine gun or sniper rifle. Needs more John Malkovich.
The second one's pretty skippable. Not horrible, but not worth going out of your way to see, at least.
