(hint: try listening to the mix before viewing the track order. it's fun to be surprised!)
It's that time of the year again! Shake Your Booty Time!
Summer is just around the corner, and you wanna look good in your swimsuit, don't you? Of course you do. So that means it's time to shake off the last of those Christmas pounds with some music you can shake your booty to so f'n hard that it just might fall off and go bouncing down the hall, and then you can get some extra exercise chasing after the damn thing.
Last year's Shake Your Booty Mix seemed to be a big hit, so I'm not gonna mess with the formula, which is this: you tell me what songs you want to be in the mix, and I'll mix them all into a continuous DJ set, which I will then post somewhere for you all to download, pop into your favorite MP3 player, and get down to. One request per match-cutter, please.
I'll allow 15 slots to begin with, reserving 2-3 slots for myself, which I will use for songs to serve as glue to hold the mix together, to round out gaps, perhaps to segue into each other, or mash together even. I'm shooting for a 70 minute mix, one you could burn to a single CD. If it turns out I have room for more, I'll open up a few more slots to you guys on a first come, first served basis, with deference given to folks who haven't had a chance to get a song in yet.
So, the schedule. As you're reading this, the list is open for song suggestions. I'll keep it open for a week or until we get 15 songs on the list, whichever comes first. I'll then proceed to gathering any songs I don't have (which I figure will be most of them). If I need help finding a particular song, I'll PM you for help.
I'll then spend a week or so figuring out song placement and putting together a mix, and then you'll see a link from which you can download that bad-boy.
Should be a good ol' time. I've upgraded both my skills and my tools since last time, so my hopes are high that this one will be even better than the last.
And with that, I open up the floodgates. Get those song suggestions in, comrades, and I'll go to work just like Kool Moe F'n Dee.
The List: (locked)
We Are the Ones - The Coup (Kurosawa Fan)
Dear Sheila - Fase (Daniel Davis)
You Ain't Seen Bouncin Back - Mystikal (Ezee E)
Skankenstein - Kora (Winston*)
Dirty Disco Dub - The Orb (Russ)
lady don't tek no - latyrx (Kurious Jorge)
know your enemy - Rage Against The Machine (Raiders)
Cantamilla - Tranquility Bass (Spinal)
Do the Astral Plane - Flying Lotus (Derek)
I Like Music (W.O.S.B.) - Junior Senior (Sycophant)
Kick out the Chairs [Whomadewho Version] - Munk feat James Murphy (Transmogrifier)
Daisy - Brand New (Brightside)
Off and On - Roisin Murphy (Thirdmango)
Marrow - St. Vincent (Dreamdead)
Moaner - Underworld (Chrishnu)
So, the list is officially locked down. Next comes the gathering of the songs, learning their nuances, mix-in, mix-out and mash-up potentials, the figuring out the order in which they should go on the mix.
I'll engage you on a person-by-person basis if I have any trouble locating a particular ditty.
Stay tuned!

I thought you'd like that. They call it Folkimal - a mix of minimal with folk instruments. All the real instruments are played live and sampled.

For me, it's all about Born Slippy. I don't care how many times I hear that song, when that main melody parts kick in, and then drums drop out, I get chills. Such a perfect moment.

Too many awesome Underworld songs out there for me to count. Every time I hear Cowgirl, it takes me back to a time in my 20s where my friends & I would hit the clubs every weekend, close the places out, get some nachos at a divey mexican joint afterwords and not get to bed until close to 3am. Those were good times.
Underworld has a new song out that's pretty good, Downpipe (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NbghaUtVfJg).

Thank you Mr. bac0n, for what's shaping up to be an annual tradition, hmmmm?
Do you have a DJ name? For the amusement of this forum, you need one. DJ bac0n is just too...bacon-y.
It took Daniel a couple of years (seemingly) to get the perfect avatar, right? Surely we can christen you with a DJ name before you have these songs mixed down.
Now taking suggestions. :)

Eeek. I didn't do any low-end stripping of any of the tracks. I must have gotten the wrong remix, perhaps?
EDIT - on second listening, pulling back the mid and boosting the low and high, and there it is. I wonder if I should do another take at this stuff.

You didn't sound ungrateful at all. On the contrary, I, in fact, love constructive criticism, as it affords me a chance to improve my game.

Wow, yeah, totally different song. Zoinks. They must have remixed it for that Rebirth of Cool compilation, cuz the version on the album from which I grabbed it, Transmissions From Heaven, is totally different.
I'm not surprised that you're confused - they didn't even bother to say it's a remix on the Rebirth of Cool album.

So... thoughts on the songs, anyone?
My intitial reaction was that it wasn't quite as strong as the first mix. However, I think that's more a problem with the material, not the mix; just not enough booty-shaking. I'll have to give it a couple more listens before I can comment on individual tracks more. If you ever do another one, I'm going to submit something other than electronica.

I agree entirely. Not many of the songs are actually all that good for dancing. It's quite intriguing that given the task to make a dance mixtape, so many of us here automatically go for mid-groove electronica.
That's why I appreciated the Rage and The Coup, both songs I already new and loved.
Not many of the individual songs stand out to me at all, to tell the truth, but the mixing is awesome, of course.

It's definitely not something I'd normally listen to. Maybe I just can't appreciate it.
I've found myself repeating the first half of the mix much more than the second half, and not just because it's easier.
Where did that remix of "Skankenstein" come from? I looked for the song on YouTube, and the original version sounds nothing like this.
