My ejaculate just turned purple with awesome.
Gorgeous colours, but awful cartoon-y for something that's supposed to be photo-realistic.

Pretty, but The White Ribbon has the best cinematography of the decade. As much as I love the film, that seems like a bit of an overstatement. I'd probably vote for Les Amants réguliers (William Lubtchansky).

As someone who didn't complete their nominee ballot, I feel a bit hypocritical saying this, but it's true: the awards (nominations and winners) felts very, very lazy this year.

Pretty sure this goes to a Christopher Dolye/ WKW collaboration.

Yes, I see what you and baby doll are saying. You're alluding to a film made 10 years ago, and baby doll to one made 5 years ago. The thing is that I've seen a lot of films last year, and I'm pretty confident in saying that Haneke's film is in a league of its own. I shouldn't have put the decade comment as that obviously sidetracked the conversation from the actual point I was trying to make.

I personally think The White Ribbon is in one of the best films of the decade overall, and there were some great compositions, but I don't like the "modern" black and white look they went for. Haneke intentionally discouraged the cinematographer from making it look like nostalgic "old" black and white films which is fine and I understand why he would want to do it, but I just don't find it as aesthetically appealing.

Rep. I'd agree completely. In both WKW/Doyle collaborations I've seen, the cinematography has just floored me.

I think I find the nominating process more fun than the results.
Off the top of my head, favorite cinematography from the aughts probably has to go to either The New World or maybe Tropical Malady. In the Mood for Love is right there, too
And just in terms of 2009, yeah The White Ribbon is great, but we outright snubbed the hands-down tops of the tops in Antichrist
Spinal

Yeah, the cinematography in Antichrist is stunning.

Assassination of Jesse James has the best cinematography of the naughts.
