I was just breezing through my dvds, and was inspired to have a party for some unappreciated, under-appreciated, or unseen films. Now I know you are all giant movie whores like me, and have probably seen all the movies on this list. I'm talking about the general pool of movie-going friends and family. I've found most have never even heard of most of these films.

These flicks slip by the radar of the normal person.

I'm sure to draw some ire for some of these selections, but hey, this isn't a list of "Most Masterful Films EVER!" or something like that. Just films I appreciate for some reason or another. Who knows, maybe, just maybe, you may stumble across one you haven't given a chance.

I may throw some music in here as well.

Coming soon.

Wasabi

Written by Luc Besson and starring Jean Reno this film...are you watching it yet?

Hilarious flick, with a little heart. Sure, the asian girl is crying most of the movie but...hell, she looks better when she's crying. At least she stops whining while she's crying.

Hell's Windstaff

I love old school kung fu flicks, and this one really stands out. The two pictured above have to learn two weird styles (one being a fighting-rowing oar style) and fight together to take down the master of the Hell's Windstaff. Hystical flick, with some righteous ass-kicking, and some pretty awesome 'training' moments.

Also, poop-jokes.

Deceiver

Wonderful cast, bizzare story, well played sirs. Well played.

Thief

C'mon! It's JAMES CAAN in a heist movie! What more needs to be said?!

Thief is good, but the greatest James Caan heist movie remains Bottle Rocket

This thread is awesome, even if so far I am only opposed to its content. :) Keep going.

Ha! Hilarious movie, man. If you can forget about Leon for a minute...

Garage Days

A very funny take on the band movie. Very funny, mostly because it's actually pretty accurate. Every band (at least the ones I've been in) has the drunk, the druggie, the whore, the artistic lunatic...and so on. Also quite enjoy the supporters around the group...the old rock and roll dad, the hapless manager hoping to hitch a ride on a break out, the groupie. Again, hilariously acurate.

Also, glad it didn't have a copout happy climax. That would have been lame. Settles on a nice ending instead.

They Call Me Phat Dragon

Yes! Sammo at his pimpest! If you've never seen a fat man move like lightning than definately check out this madness. The flexibility his sidekick/trainee displays is downright nauseating at times. A hysterical comedy wrapped in a really badass kung fu flick. Stupid as hell name though.

For more Sammo hilarity and masterful martial arts, see also, Project A and Project A2.

Project A = masterpiece

That film is so good.

Ditto. I liked it, but that was a long time ago.

I was super underwhelmed by Thief. Without a doubt the worst of Mann's films that I've seen (have yet to see Miami Vice).

I also wasn't too keen on Project A, but to be fair, I saw the (apparently) butchered American DVD version that also only features the option to watch it with a terrible dub.

Below

Poor David Twohy. I don't think the dude gets the respect he should. Too bad. This flick (I'm sure most of you have seen it) really gets under my skin. Using (obviously) the claustraphobia of a sub, employing Benny Goodman as a scare device, and some truly beautiful deep sea shots, this flick really stands above as both a sub movie and a ghost story.

Also, the hilarity of Zach Galifiniunakioeinnbkoskdifoisi snvois.

The Salton Sea

Hey, those movies that spend three days in NY and LA and then vanish...most never ever hear of them. Sometimes that's a good thing...other times, its bewildering to me. For example, this year...The Box struck me as the kind of movie that would normally get that kind of release. Happy it didn't, but that's hardly the general public's usual cup of tea. Also, Boondock Saints 2 got that kind of release, and shouldn't have. Not a judgement of the film (I felt it was as mediocre as the first, whoopity do), but nonetheless, that flick has a built in audience, so releasing it limited was a surprise to me, AND a lot of my friends were pissed off about it.

Back to the film at hand, The Salton Sea was never on any radar. I'm usually pretty up to snuff with the movie news (as most of us are), but I literally picked this up in a bargain bin, having never even heard about it. And as it turned out, I REALLY liked it. To remotely begin to describe this film starts to give things away, so I will refrain. This is a go-to for me for people who claim to be movie nuts...most I've run into have never heard of it, and I've never had a negative review comeback.

Now, for our types of movie dork, this isn't some sort of masterpiece. It's a solid film. Good score, good performances, solid and amusing script. It is a gem in the rough.

Wow! He was in this? I saw Below about four years ago, but didn't know who Zach was back then. The movie was definitely solid.

Oh yeah...he was the guy that collected the Cracker Jack prizes, and kept talking about the 'malediction'.

Also, the always great Bruce Greenwood, and the script was co-written by Darren Aronofsky.

We agree on this film and David Twohy.

Sorry, I got distracted. Anyway, here's the last two, then I'll let this thread die. Don't all cheer at once, assholes. :pritch:

Cecil B. Demented

http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e125/skitchthemovieman/Movies/cecil.jpg

I'm a Stephen Dorff fan. There, I said it. I can't help it. I like the dude. Even when he's a crappy movie, he still seems likable. I don't know why, but I think the guy also has skills.

Then there's this.

Complete and utter chaos. Waters' seems out to make fun of every aspect of movie making and movie fan, genre by genre, behind and in front of the camera. I fucking love this flick. I laugh my ass off every time.

Also, Kevin Nealon as Forrest Gump in Gump 2.

Romeo Is Bleeding

http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e125/skitchthemovieman/Movies/romeoisbleeding.jpg

Not to be confused with Romeo Must Die, the crappy Jet Li flick. I love finding these kinds of seldom heard of movies that are loaded with great actors...Gary Oldman, Lena Olin, Roy Scheider, Will Patton, Michael Wincott, James Cromwell, Tony Sirico (Pauly Walnuts!), Ron Pearlman...

Crime noir...usually enough to get me in the door, but include Oldman, and I'm first in line. He doesn't disappoint, playing his Jack Grimaldi almost with as much reckless abandon as Harvey Keitel in Bad Lieutenant (another favorite of mine).

I'm sure most of you have seen this (maybe a few of you actually like it too), but if you haven't, get the fuck on it. Bloody marvelous.

The end. Hope I got a few in there you haven't seen.

The Legend Of 1900

http://i.imgur.com/2y66pJI.jpg

Starring: Tim Roth, Clarence Williams III, that guy with the twitchy eyes from that weird John Cusack movie

I've been badgering people into seeing this film for some time. I finally found a copy for myself (had only previously seen from Netflix) and rewatched it for the first time in years. It brought me to tears again. Wonderful film. Several scenes are so beautiful it almost hurts. I beg you to get your hands on this film.
