I couldn't find another thread, though I'm sure there is one.

Trailer (http://www.imdb.com/video/imdb/vi875627545/)

The movie looks like crap, but great trailer. Shiny Toy Guns!

Great preview, if you've seen the original.

If not, I wonder if people will be like, "What's the big deal about this?"

If money never sleeps that means it never dreams. And a life without dreams is like a garden without flowers.

The original isn't very good, but the sequel has a great cast and I would like to see Stone's take on the current economic meltdown as Gekko as the good guy.

It's sad that a director I liked so much as a teenager has become a laughing stock (then again, Wall Street was never one of my favorites). Is it Stone that's changed, or me?

I would agree but W. was a fantastic return to form for Stone.

Wall Street's my favorite Stone movie, though it isn't really that great. But man, Michael Douglas nails it in that movie.

Let's just hope that Carey Mulligan is a better love interest than Daryl Hannah.

Hah, Eli Wallach is in it.

I still have to see the first one. In fact, full disclosure here - I really have seen very few Oliver Stone movies.

The Hand - 6
Platoon - 10
Salvador - 7
Natural Born Killers - 8
Any Given Sunday - 9

JFK is incredible. Born on the Fourth of July is also great.

From Salvador through JFK (I haven't seen The Doors), Stone was pretty damn solid. Then... ugh.

But anyway, Amanda Peet isn't attracting the attention of Steven Spielberg and Oliver Stone.

International trailer with a lot of new footage:

http://www.slashfilm.com/2010/02/18/wall-street-money-never-sleeps-international-movie-trailer/

Looks like this film is primarily going to be about Shia LaBeouf's character.

I think it looks pretty promising. The song choice was lame though. Sympathy for the Devil? Seriously? One of the most overplayed songs ever.

I couldn't care about this movie any less.

Hate Shia LaBeouf, not much of an Oliver Stone fan, and it's yet another totally unnecessary sequel that's 20 years too late.

Mega pass.

How is it 20 years too late? A sequel now is 100x more relevant than a sequel a year or two later would've been.

The trailer seems to certainly have confidence in itself and Gekko. I'm really looking forward to it.

Can't judge Mulligan and her one shot though...

That's true, I guess I'm thinking more from a business perspective. No one my age (outside of movie buffs) knows of the character Gordon Gekko, or even the movie Wall Street. And Shia isn't that big of a box office draw. It just seems like a really odd production - like a Bad Lieutenant sequel. Oh, wait...

Carey Mulligan looks like she's bringing the whole film down.Yeah, I never really understood the rave reviews she got for An Education. Granted, most folks were comparing her to Audrey Hepburn, who isn't exactly my favorite actress to begin with, but Jesus, at least Hepburn didn't look alarmingly malnourished when she hit the red carpet. Mulligan seriously looks like shit every time I see her on TV. With that short haircut, she looks less like Jean Seberg and more like Mia Farrow in Rosemary's Baby, except that it was essential to the plot that Farrow look ill for a good portion of the picture. I mean, regardless of Howard Stern saying that Gabourey Sidibe is the size of a planet, if given the option, I'd much rather schtup her than Mulligan.

Placing it in a spot that makes it able to be in the Oscar conversation?

I don't think Wall Street is much of an April film and I always found the date odd. Also, it's been rumored for a few weeks that they were trying to get it into Cannes, so the delay was inevitable because why would it play in competition there a month after it was out in the US?

Don't know about Cannes, but September isn't exactly a good time for Oscar releases. Usually it's a crappy month like January. Just crappy movies that aren't scary enough for Halloween, not big enough for the summer, and not awards-worthy for Nov-Dec.

Anton Corbijn/George Clooney's The American and Kevin Macdonald's Eagle of the Ninth are both in the early Oscar converation and they're both coming out in September this year. The Informant! came out last September and Burn After Reading the September before that.

It's a good place to put films that have to carve out a niche to be profitable.

I don't know if I just don't get it or what, but this has to be one of the worst sequel titles ever. What does Money Never Sleeps even mean? Anyway, does anyone see Michael Douglas at least garnering a Best Actor nomination at the Academy Awards for this? For the first film, he won every award for which he was nominated. For the record, I thought the first film was just okay and his performance wasn't anything earth-shattering, but I'll probably see the sequel at some point.

"Money never sleeps" is a line from the first movie. Gekko wakes up Charlie Sheen early in the morning to buy some stocks or something and that's how he greets him. It makes sense to me.

Movie was very fun, some nice performances. Stone seems to be engaged in some form of stream of consciousness with regards to his exploration of the crisis. He hits the nail close to the head multiple times, and almost sounds like an Austrian Economist in some scenes.

This was terrific, if a tad too long. I loved the board room scenes discussing the bailouts. Only Oliver Stone could pull those scenes off, and he is he only one who would dare try, because he is a bad asim willing to bet that this is a much better film than The Social Network, but I have no intention of seeing that to find out.
