From DVDActive...

Universal Home Video has announced a new edition of the 1997 film Lost Highway which stars Bill Pullman, Patricia Arquette, and Balthazar Getty. This David Lynch directed film will be available to own from the 25th March, and should retail at around $19.98. The film itself will be presented in anamorphic widescreen, along with an English Dolby Digital track. As far as we know, the only extra material on this one will be a 10-Part Multi-Angle Interview with David Lynch.

I'll be getting it.

I should add though that Lynch's -ness sometimes surprises me. That faux cooking show on the Inland Empire dvd is just plain terrific.

Hopefully, this means there's an HD-DVD on the way, too.

My three favorite Lynch films:

1 Eraserhead
2 Lost Highway
3 Fire Walk With Me

I've been thinking about importing this for years. Now, a simple wait will do. Excellent.

They should definitely bounce around.

Oh, no arguments there. I'm just trying to separate fantasy from reality because I get so confused.

The first sex scene between her and PULLLLLLLLLMAN!!! has too much bounceage to handle.

Also, this DVD edition needs a feature to edit out Balthazar Getty and replace him with an actor.

Also, this DVD edition needs a feature to edit out Balthazar Getty and replace him with an actor. This was just a part of Lynch's grand master scheme. He wanted a charisma void to contrast with Pullman.

I still luvs ya, Bill.

The movie works best as Lynch's answer to the post-Dogs/Pulp indie-crime graveyard of the early mid 90s, as well as his usual identity issues. Some of the music cues are so over-the-top that they can only be commentary on the hollow use of pop songs for simple contrast/comment on a scene.

Great movie.

Oh man, I already have a region 2 widescreen DVD - my multi-region player is looking less and less useful.

I agreed that HD would make a big difference with Lost Highway because the movie is so dark. Dark scenes just don't come out very well on DVD even on a tube TV. I think I will pass on this purchase.

I hate lens flares.

Also, nothing will top the German cover art.

I make it a habit of never criticizing cover art, but damn if that isn't a disappointing cover for the upcoming release. I do agree that the German one is pretty cool though.

I'll be buying Lost Highway though. I'm pretty sure. Unless I have a change of heart come March and just Netflix it. I was reading recently that the transfer on the current Blue Velvet DVD is poor. Any truth to that? I've been considering adding it to my library for a while now.

I own it, and didn't think the transfer was particularly poor. You can view a comparison of screen captures from the various editions here:

The transfer on the latest edition of Blue Velvet was overseen by Lynch himself, so it better be good.

On another note I saw the trailer for Blade Runner Final Cut the other day, the transfer looks sooooo much better than anything I've seen before.
