Disappointing, but not surprising.

Yeah, and digital clocks. Boy did they get that wrong.

There's plenty of room for improvement.

Sure, why not? It's still relevant.

Something good could be done with this.

Not something better, necessarily. But something good.

So, uh, where is the source?

well...at least the original is old enough to make some sorta sense.

I'm actually not opposed to this idea necessarily. I will reserve judgment until I hear who's working on it.

Yeah. I mean, if it's Michael Bay or Brett Ratner or someone of their ilk, you can count me out. But there's room for a retelling.

Coppola was going to do his own called "Megalopolis" at one point.

I'm not opposed to a remake of this film. I don't have a lot of confidence in the producing team (Schühly & Kassar), however.

Man, I hope this version has some implicit reference to dominant countries (like, say, the U.S.) taking advantage of inferior countries (like, say, Iraq). That would be deep and transgressive against the administration that's in office now. Maybe they can get Middle Eastern extras to man the Moloch machine.

For me, my admiration for the film has always been from the art deco standpoint, even more so than Lang's direction or the story. It was beautifully futuristic, and seen in a silent movie context, it was visionary. If they revamp it, either they'll copy the style, which will look pretty retro-silly in color and in this age, or they'll revamp into a more standard futuristic look, which would be boring.

If she's equally nekkid - I'm down with that.

Whatever happened to Megalopolis? I keep hearing about it. Apparently it's his dream project and he has been working on it for years (so I have frequently read). Just not happening anymore? Was it even in production?

I predict disaster. Lame digital decoration, lame vanilla score, lame convoluted drama...

Me too! I demand more post-modern cynicism and thinly disguised political allegory.

I'm not sure how to handle this news. I don't think a remake is really even neccessary. Anyways I'll wait and see I suppose, and then when I find out its being made by some hack I'll come back here to post some angry rant about another crappy remake, which will be utterly pointless and add nothing to the discussion. Kinda like most of my posts :P
