I noticed somebody mention this site while lurking at RT, and I don't think I've seen it mentioned here. It has about 5000 movies compiled from various lists (1000 movies to see before you die; IMDb's best-of-decade, -genre, etc.; winners at film festivals and Oscars; critics' lists), and you can check them off to make your own have-seen and to-see lists. You can also import the list of movies you've rated on IMDb. Pretty good one-stop source of recommendations and opportunity for compulsive list-making.

I had about 4 or 5 more pages to write in my thesis. But then my girlfriend broke up with me a week ago, and I haven't done any work since. Don't know when I'll have the focus to get back to work.

That's harsh. If it's any comfort, similar thing happens to me before my defend as well.

I found the easiest way to be to just go through all 5,000 films rather than list by list. To do this go to the middle tab 'movies' and then to the right tab beneath that 'unchecked'.

How the hell is Blood Diamond one of the 250 best films ever made? I mean, I never saw it, but that seems totally absurd. I know that list is kind of crap anyway, with way too many recent films, but Blood Diamond just seems totally out of place. No fanboy following, no cult directors/actors to get behind. Bizarre.

No, that I know of. You can have two windows open I guess - one with this site and the other with imdb. What I did was go through my entire list of movies from my master list and just rate them on imdb - it's a long process but going through icheckmovies to rate films is even longer.

It's not really a mess now, the idea is to expand the database so you can add lists in the future. Since the films that are being imported (TV shows, porn, what have you) are only tallied next to the user's name (not included with any "official" tally), there's really no reason to say everything's a mess now. Just ignore that they added this feature, and everything will still be as it was for you.
