I like this idea... a lot

“The plan is that it is 2013 and it’s about what happens after the disaster,” Emmerich told EW while walking the red carpet for the 2012 premiere Tuesday. “It is about the resettling of Earth. That is very, very fascinating. (2012 writer/producer) Harald Kloser and I came up with the idea and we have the luxury of having a producer on the film who is a big TV producer, Mark Gordon. We said to Mark, ‘Why don’t you do a TV show that picks up where the movie leaves off and call it 2013?’ I think it will focus on a group of people who survived but not on the boats … maybe they were on a piece of land that was spared or one that became an island in the process of the crust moving. There are so many possibilities of what they could do and I’d be excited to watch it.”

I was a fan of Jericho premise which sort of had the same idea going, rebuilding the world... What's fuzzy is how people are going to survive without being on one of those ships....

I'll watch this harder than how I watch Lost.

ABC orders Roland Emmerich script to pilot
'2012' helmer to direct net's first drama pickup

Emmerich

ABC has ordered a drama script to pilot from film director Roland Emmerich.
The helmer behind "Anonymous" and "2012" has teamed with Mark Gordon Co. on the untitled project, which marks the first drama pilot pickup for the Alphabet going into the 2012-13 season.

Set in New York City, the story is set against the backdrop of the presidential race of 2012, when a young astrophysics student learns his destiny lies not in science but somewhere between heaven and hell.

The project comes under Gordon's first-look deal with ABC Studios, which was signed last April.

Emmerich, who will direct the pilot, wrote the script with Harald Kloser. The two last collaborated on theatrical "Singularity," which Sony halted production on late last year.

Executive producers are Emmmerich through his Centropolis Entertainment shingle, Kloser, Gordon and Nicholas Pepper.

ABC has already made a pair of pilot pickups on the comedy side including a Dan Fogelman script on aliens living in the suburbs and "The Manzanis," a multi-camera half-hour starring Kirstie Alley. (http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118048105)
