I wasn't ready for Hou when I introduced myself to his work with Three Times, so another viewing may likely alter my rating, Goodbye South looks better and better in retrospect, and while I found Flowers of Shanghai remarkably tedious for at least half of its running time, the film is just about perfectly realized on its own terms.

I forgot to vote, but that's where I would stand currently, for posterity. I was going to try to see a couple more of his earlier films this week but didn't even find time for that, so fail all around.

Interesting to see Flight getting top billing here...Yeah, I mean I like it a lot, but it's pretty slight next to his historical films, which I find more interesting (City of Sadness, The Puppet Master, Good Men, Good Women, and Three Times being my personal favorites). I guess it's one of those movies that's impossible to dislike.
