View Full Version : Match Cut Director Consensus -- Year 5 Suggestions

While it can be counted on certain directors definitely making it (Claire who?). i'd like to hear some suggestions for next year.
Some may not make it, as I prefer having more participation than a thread that only gets 10-15 responses. But suggest away.
I'll post the list late October/early November.

We haven't done Lau Kar Leung yet, right? Because if not, we must.
Are you planning on re-doing some of the huger names I'm guessing you covered in your first couple of years?

Dreamdead has been redoing them every once in a while. I'm not really sure how to keep track since the old site is dead.

Sorry for not cataloguing the Spielberg thread yet. Been moving in thefourthwall's stuff into our apartment, which has unsurprisingly taken away some of the consensus time. I have a decent recall of most of the heavyweights that were on the old site. I could see maybe sprinkling them in among Year 5, though, to be honest. Would guarantee interest and maybe rewatches in those weeks. I leave that decision to you, though, E. If it sounds good to tack the oldies in here, I'll manufacture the names that I remember from the old site...

I'll second Preminger and add Hong Sang-soo and Lee Chang-dong.

If we didn't do Preminger in the first two years, I am shocked.
But without any proof...
Dreamdead, are you archiving any of the redone directors by chance?

I feel certain we did Preminger, but maybe he was only scheduled and never gotten to. I promise I do have all the old stats and stuff, but the PC is essentially dead and no offense but I'm not spending a couple hundred bucks to fix it just to get some Excel spreadsheets.

Sounds good.
I'm thinking of doing all new directors stll, with possibly a wellknown director once a month on top of the new ones. Next year doesn't have too many directors that will be heavily rated, so we could easily throw in Fellini/Herzog/etc again.
I'll try and spice up the Hall of Fame a little more, just having screenshots, and seeing if I can find any quotes about the movie by Match Cutters.

Have we done Ross McElwee?

I've got Kubrick and Hitchcock archived here (http://match-cut.org/showthread.php?t=2250). I'm gonna work on getting Spielberg done by the end of the weekend, so any stragglers can still get their ratings there. Also, feel free to update any other old directors that you remember there.

Hopefully The Lost City of Z will still be a 2010 release and we can put him in at the end of the year.

So I'm thinking of revisiting 12 directors, one per month. And that month can be "Otto Preminger month" or something for Match Cut. Perhaps we could even do a banner for a couple weeks out of that month?
Outside of the Hall of Fame results, everything would be redone for these guys. I figure I'll keep the movie in the hall of fame regardless of what happens, but new ones can be added if they were to get that score. Although I'm pretty sure I'm the only one that cares about the Hall of Fame.
If anyone's interested in helping me with creating riddles for the upcoming directors, please PM me.
