I have no plans to do another movie. I don’t know what’s going to happen. I’m open to seeing how I feel in a while, but right now I’m not saying yes to anything,

I don't know, I don't see Viggo Mortensen as the person to pull a stunt. I think he's honestly considering his future, and taking a break after doing a lot of films in the last few years. The man's deserved it, I think he uses a lot of resouses with every film he does.

He made no indication at Telluride that he wanted to retire or was burnt out.
All this travelling though could make one want to do that. In one week he's gone from Venice to Colorado to Toronto. Awful. He was in the same shirt in Telluride that he had at the premiere in Venice.

Sometimes people think they might retire. Or slow down. Or shift priorities. It especially seems common with high profile people in film (probably because they make enough that they can afford to consider scaling back). It happens.

Isn't this... kinda old news? I remember reading the same thing almost a year ago. He claimed that the Nazi movie was his last.

Yeah, when I made a thread about it a year ago.
I believe this about as much as I believe Gran Torino marked Clint Eastwood's retirement.

Just a retirement from acting, not directing. I believe it, but time will tell obviously.

I sure hope not, as he is an awesome actor.

Maybe he's going to do a duet with Joaquin Pheonix.

Quoth Mr. Cronenberg in Sunday's NYT: "I sometimes think he [Viggo] could walk away from the whole business. He doesn't feel the need to be in the public eye. He spends a lot of time alone, and doesn't have an entourage."
That sound like someone who'd pull a publicity stunt to you?
