View Full Version : I love Panic at the Disco...

Yes. I, an adult male, love Panic at the Disco. The vitriol for them absolutely eludes me. Everyone my age or older seems to despise them. I can't comprehend it. Is it the boyish good looks? The softer voices? The legions of teenage girls that swoon at their every move? None of these things have any bearing on the quality of the music which, for me, is fantastic. Creative, witty and incisive lyrics. Brilliant satire. A wealth of classic rock influences. Musical aspirations far beyond their current status. You guys suck. Panic at the Disco > You.:pritch:

the vocalist is the same boring cookie-cutter pop-rock singer that permeates the radio this day and age. their music is alright, but i'd rather listen to the format if i want to listen to that kind of music

Most definitely disagreed. Brendan's voice is so emotive. Not to mention it's actually a legitimately great singing voice. It's pleasing to the ears.

there's a difference between having a good singing voice, and having one that is interesting to listen to. the lead singer of fall out boy (as well as numerous american idol contestants) has a legitimately great voice too. still boring as hell

Right. I find his voice to be rather great, actually. Like, far more emotive than most. And it's so smooth.

I admit to actually quite liking Panic at the Disco's first album. I would agree that the lead singer may not be a good singer, but yet I'm still drawn to it oddly enough.

I will admit to not knowing if I've ever hear Panic at the Disco, and being clueless to any vitriol thrown in their direction.
Fall-out Boy sucks though.

I think his voice is very good, but I also like Patrick Stump's voice for being so untrained and natural. Something about the tone and timber of it. I like some Panic songs.

They're okay. Are they out of their somewhat-misguided Beatles phase?

I would almost go so far as saying they're worse than Fall Out Boy, but when you're that awful, comparisons are meaningless.
Rather than suggest you listen to a song, I'll post the following picture which tells you more than you need to know about this band.

Yeah, I don't think I can listen to a band where one of the members makes one of his eyes look like a raccoon. Also not a fan of spooky jazz hands. Or silk.

It took me a while to stop disliking Gerard Way (although his band still sucks), but forgiving Panic at the Disco too? It is a task too vast for me to undertake.

Agreed. I think The Black Parade as a whole is fantastic, but I can't get much of their other stuff.

i'm not okay and helena are probably my faves, but the title track from the black parade is pretty awesome
i don't really like much beyond their singles, which are mostly pretty good

I wish they would've stuck to their rock opera ripoffs in that album. There are a few too many traditional songs like "The Sharpest Lives" and "House of Wolves" sprinkled in the otherwise fun nods to The Wall and A Night at the Opera.
Still, good album. That Ray Toro's a damn impressive guitarist.

FUN FACT: This won "Video of the Year" at the MTV VMAs a few years back. This was also the first year the public was allowed to vote for the category... and they never did that again.

Bad enough to elicit laughter? Wow. I think it's a pretty great critique of "public" relationships and the gossip and derision that accompanies them.

I don't know. I enjoy not being so discerning with my music. I can even derive some enjoyment out of a pop song in the right circumstances. Naturally, it wouldn't enter my regular flow of music, but here and there they work as background noise.
