Despite not being religious at all, I've always had an intense fascination with angels. I find them beautiful, and some of my favorite artwork has centered around them both thematically and directly. Perhaps its just my obsession with the idea of being able to fly...

So while the cast has me both excited (Paul Bettany) and worried (Dennis Quaid, Tyrese Gibson), I can't help but look forward to this film because that poster art alone is damn cool.

Also, upon further reading, this is directed by the same guy who is helming the film adaptation of the popular manga series "Priest" (also starring Paul Bettany, and talked about in this thread. (http://match-cut.org/showthread.php?t=2352)).

Here's an article about the film, with the red-band trailer at the bottom. (http://www.cinematical.com/2009/08/13/red-band-trailer-for-legion-might-scare-you-back-to-church/)

The trailer looks like it could be insanely fun or just terrible. I hope it's at least decent because some of the visuals had some promise and cast-wise only knowing Paul Bettany made the diner scene just a parade of "oh! him?/her?" moments for me.

The fact that this will have been shot almost two years prior to the release date and that release date is mid-January aren't the greatest signs. Though if the buzz is good an there's no carried-over Christmas stuff for me to check out then there's a chance I'd see it as something much lighter. But also if this thread is bumped in five months and it ends up being the worst movie of the year, then my anticipation was swayed only by the hilarious granny spiderwalk.

Yeah, I agree it looks like it could be fun or terrible, but I'm leaning towards terrible.

I just can't help but think anything involving angels is pretty cool.

I do not like that poster. The gun ruins it for me.

Why does an angel need a gun? Or a knife for that matter?

No, I haven't looked at the trailer, yet. Shut up.

That trailer is fucking hilarious.

That shot of Bettany bazookaing the other angels, I hope in the movie, it has him going, "FUCK YOU, GOD. PEW PEW PEW!"

I love the cleverness of naming the diner Paradise Falls.

Have you read 'His Dark Materials' trilogy meg? it has an interesting take on angels and it's mythos.

That trailer is incredibly fun. Old lady scene - come on.

For a trailer, it's way too goddamn long, though. I was sold and exhausted after two minutes.

The old lady scene looked like shit. That CGI better be touched up.

But I have to say, this is #1 on my most anticipated list for 2010 now.

"Come ye children, listen to me. I will teach you the fear of the lord" This is what the movie starts with... followed by a few seconds later in narrative form; "I guess he just god tired of all the bullshit"... so rollseyes worthy...

The movie IS the trailer. The Angel (Michael) comes down from heaven, cuts off his own wings, searches for girl with baby. That's of course not before he stitches up his own back where his wings used to be and arms himself with LOTS of guns... how convenient. I HATE the cliches in this movie. I HATE how It's a Wonderful Life is playing on the TV in the diner, I HATE the response from the slutty looking girl when her mom questions if what she's wearing is appropriate, I HATE the grandma scene... it's so OVER exaggerated... There's scenes that end and never get explained...Dennis Quaid has some awful lines the entire movie reeks of D grade horror... which is too bad because there is some nice imagery, particularly the Ice Cream Man scene. But you can always just watch the trailer for that considering its not any longer.

"I guess he just god tired of all the bullshit"

Is this a typo on your part or a pun on the movie's part? If the latter, that's hilarious.

Yeah. Production values were fine and I have to admire a film that make God the villain, but there's so many damn plotholes. Why didn't the angels simply possess everyone in the diner to begin with?
