I just finished watching the pilot on Facebook, which is available for the next 80 or so hours. Very promising start. I'm a sucker for anything Joel McHale though, so my opinion is biased. Still, it had a couple good laughs and set up what should be a fun premise to work with.

My worry is that they'll end up having McHale's character change for the better, or something lame like that. I could stand the one cute girl falling for him eventually, but it would be best if he stayed the way he is (a hilarious asshole) and she keeps on rejecting him. Chevy Chase seems to fit his part well, and too bad there won't be more John Oliver, simply because he is indeed awesome.

You're looking at overall ratings, not ratings in the key demo of 18-49 (http://tvbythenumbers.com/2009/10/23/tv-ratings-thursday-abc-wins-community-flashforward-leno-down-survivor-greys-up/31278). That's the demo networks care about.

Community - 1.9
Parks & Rec - 2.1

A full season isn't a surprise with how miserable NBC is at the moment, and frankly a second season isn't out of the question considering the network, but it's on thin ice, and if it keeps slipping in that demo, as it has since its move to 8, this will be its only season.

You're a bit confused. Parks had nothing to do with it, and has had the same time slot all season. Community was on at 9:30, after The Office. It moved because 30 Rock was coming back. This was the plan all along. Weekend Update Thursday was on for four weeks at 8:00, and when that show finished, Community went to its time slot and 30 Rock came back at its regular slot at 9:30.

This was definitely the funniest episode since the pilot. The show needs more of this quality to keep me watching all season though. There have been too many duds. Not sure why. My bad.

After seeing another episode of Parks and Recreation, that show is still not funny in my eyes.

Even though the Halloween episode was merely okay (Pierce getting high though was beyond hilarious), the current episode was a nice return to form. By the way, the show's moral lessons seem to be usually burried under snarky jokes and humor, much like what The Simpsons often does. So really I don't find any of them to be all that meaningful, because the writers simply undercut them. The only purpose they have is to make the characters more likable, I guess.

So finally the show has hit a bit of a weak stretch. Still I liked that last week they were making fun of the fact that Jack Black was randomly inserted into the show (such as his claims that he had been present for many moments that had previously happened). And of course the countless references to MASH.

This week's episode was decently funny. I wonder if the previous awesome episodes have set the bar a bit too high. The random Abed dance at the end was funny, though.

Why get rid of Shirley, Pierce, and Annie so quickly? Especially the latter, whose entrance was so funny?

Meh. Their romance is the lowlight of the show thus far. Annie is far hotter, and has far better chemistry with Jeff. It's the one thorn in the side of this show. They really screwed that up in the beginning.

On the one hand, I like how the show subverted the "big choice" by having Jeff kiss Annie, but I don't know. I really feel for Britta. As a character, I find her more endearing than Annie, whose hyperactive hotness feels a little unreal. She's a goofball until she suddenly flips her eyelashes and leans in smoothly for the smooch.

Not. Even. Close. Annie absolutely dominates that show, in terms of sexiness. It isn't even worth discussing.

And DAMU, I said the same thing to my wife. I'm glad it went this way, but I feel really bad for Britta. The show loves to toy with tropes, but this time I can't see a way of bringing humor to the situation.

I'm also a little concerned that the writers are a bit too tapped in to the desires of their audience. That's dangerous ground. I mean, I'm happy that I got what I wanted, but if it's at the expense of what the creators wanted to do with the show and has an affect on the quality of the product, it obviously isn't worth it.

Annie strikes me as a fling-I'm not really convinced that her and Jeff will actually start anything, and if they do it won't last long. Slater's ship has already sailed, so eventually Jeff may end up with Britta. If not, oh well.

The season finale was very sharp and almost brilliant, although it wasn't one of the funniest episodes of the season. I liked the whole thing with Abed and Troy (Troy eating the giant cookie was a great gag), plus Starburns yelling "Bring back Conan!" and Chang getting his revenge. This show excels at the little things as the well as the big picture moments.

I think it was Patton Oswalt talking about it on a podcast, but he was completely right about how rapid-fire and joke-dense the show is. Had a completely surreal night last night. Donald Glover played a stand up show in my college town, which unfortunately sold out quickly and I wasn't able to score tickets. to. But.

My friends and I were headed out to the bars later that night when who should we run into but Donald and his opening act, Joe Mande. Somehow my friends and I convinced him to join us in drinking 40s on top of a parking garage, hitting up a semi-sleazy college dance club, eating at one at a 24 hour diner (where Donald got a free coconut cream pie for his birthday), and chilling at his hotel.

Also got him to talk shit about Glee. Crazy night.

Hah Bubbler that's great. What did he say about Glee?

The season opener was excellent. It was both funny and awesome in that instead of dragging out what happened at the end of the last season throughout the season, they just simply addressed it immediately. Although I'm sure some of what transpired will linger later on. Although I have to say they need to cut down on the group falling apart, only to get back together later on bit-even though they haven't overdone it yet.

Oh and Senior Chang's Gollum impersonation=brilliant/really creepy. My favorite moment was Betty White saying "That is why you fail!' to Jeff as she was strangling him.

Hah Bubbler that's great. What did he say about Glee?

He was pretty drunk by the time he said anything about it (having just recently turned over a newspaper box, done a running cartwheel/backflip, and started to take off his pants), but he had a few amusing anecdotes.

W/r/t the people, he mentioned liking the adults from Glee who he had met, but found several of the kids to be rude and/or obnoxious. Mentioned doing a magazine thing with the guy who plays Puck, who just wouldn't talk to him, and a story about Chris Colfer not giving autographs at some party because "then everyone would want one."

Later he was talking about how easy it was for Glee to take a song (i.e. Empire State of Mind) that was popular less than a year ago, and be sure that it'd be popular itself. He likened it to if on Community "we just took an awesome old episode of Frasier and redid it the exact same way. Of course it's going to be a hit!"

"Only winners go to Denny's." Hilarious.

That season finale was epic, and actually topped last season's finale. The ending was a complete shock, too. I didn't expect that.

They really did pull of a second season that was every bit as good as the first. It often felt like a more exaggerated version Season 1 and what it was known for in broad strokes, it added more overtly genre-themed episodes, but then it almost never felt like it relied on those as an easy way out for jokes, it just gave each episode a unique setting and atmosphere to remember them by. Also, there's very few comedies that find such consistently entertaining and engaging ways of balancing its humour (no matter how over the top it may find itself) with so much understated and forward-moving character work.

Sure some threads never really felt like came together the way they seemed like they would, whether it's the Jeff & Annie cliffhanger from last year or Chang's longing to be a part of the study group, but in the end, those ideas can still benefit from lingering under the surface while things that are arguably just as funny and interesting happen more prominently in future episodes.

Cougar Town Cameo may have been my favorite part.

I hate to say I was spoiled about this from an article highlighting it in a production photo for the episode, but it was still a perfectly random and hilarious touch in the final context. It's great because I doubt most people will even notice it or understand what it is.

This show is phenomenal.

This show really could coast on the genre-trope-skewering alone, but it's amazing how they have just as much witty jokes involving their original characters.

"I'm a one man party machine. I can't be one man and be in an alliance at the same time. That would be a paradox."
"I agree. To disagree."
"Not now, Paradox."

I mean, that's just brilliant.

that isn't saying i don't like the show. i like it a lot, but i felt that this past season it was mostly on cruise control, feeling satisfied to mainly just parody film and tv tropes. it annoys me in almost the same way that big bang theory does, in the way it panders to film geeks (it's a muuuuuuch better show than bbt though)

i still consider it a top tier sitcom though

Magnitude v. Leonard is still one of my favorite moments of Season 2. I can't wait to buy this season on DVD and watch it all the way through in one night like I did with Season 1.

Okay, I read your little "thread."

And. Guys. Seriously.

Alison Brie is so much better looking than Britta that this should not even be a discussion. Britta has odd, fake-looking duck lips that make her whole face look funny. She has good hair and a nice body, that's it.

Alison Brie, on the other hand, is gorgeous every which way. She has great hair and boobs, and her eyes are completely stunning.

I mean, come on.

I noticed how pretty she was in Mad Men, of course.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v254/maragirl/TRUDY.jpg

Especially since they love putting her in those tiny vintage nightgowns.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v254/maragirl/ALISON_BRIE_NIGHTIE.jpg

My favorite tiny vintage nightgown was from when she was, like, nine months pregnant. Because it's hilarious. And yet she's still adorable.

Hey, I'm not saying I wouldn't leap at the chance to date Alison Brie. I just kinda got a bit of a thing for Gillian Jacobs's Britta. I'm a human being, and sometimes my neurons fire a little differently than everyone else's.

Mine must fire the same as I agree with you. The fact that anyone could claim Jacobs is anything less than beautiful is stunning to me.

She's actually a really good writer. Funny, with plenty of personality, and self-deprecating.

I feel now like I was too harsh on Britta. I think she's (to borrow the show's term) network-tv beautiful. But I just think Annie is a step above; just extraordinarily pretty.

And of course Jeff's hot on/off again female professor is on the show, too. Or was. She needs to make another appearance. Hell the secret service agent that fell in love with Abed was pretty attractive, as was the girl who Abed and Troy hit on in Season 2 as well. The show has its fair share of beautiful women.

Fun fact: in real life, Donald Glover is arguably geekier than Danny Pudi. If you watch the early episodes, Troy is less geeky than he is now. I think a lot of that is really because of Glover's personality.

They're called chokers, they were popular when I was in high school ('94-'97) and they look good on about 3% of the population. They might be coming back.

EDIT: More specifically, it's a cameo choker, which were not popular when I was in high school. They were popular when my great-great-grandmother was in high school.
